Yeah - I'm going back to the 1960's when I was in SAC. A lot has changed since then.

But there was two separate branches of security in SAC when I was in - the Air Police wore the pretty uniforms with the white hats and pistols,etc. They were stationed at the gates and patrolled the base with the exception of the flight lines and Alert areas. The guys on the flight line wore fatigues ( I told you this was in the 1960's during the Cold War). They carried rifles,guarded the airplanes and controlled entry to the Alert areas. I believe there was 2 different areas of responsibility within the Air Police sqdn. Law Enforcement and Security. Maybe not.

Both missions were contained in one squadron. AF eventually combined both career fields into one and now nothing really works well! Bring back SAC!

Could be. All I know is what I saw back then. When I was ever in the Alert area,those guys with the rifles and dogs didn't know too friendly.

And that Air Policeman who pulled me over for being 2-3 miles over the speed limit in the Dyess AFB base housing area was wearing his pretty uniform and had his pistol on.

I guessed the wrong base for these guys. That type flying must have aged these guys fast - kinda old looking for Captains.

Still pretty impressive - I didn't know those C-130's they used for that flying were "stock" ones. I heard that planes used by the Thunderbirds are modified for that type flying,but can be brought back to combat ready configuration if necessary.

Yep - and the "C 12" is its call sign for Job Control to call. Ours had a plywood square covered in plexiglass with all our Tail Numbers on it that maintenance was due on or the airplanes status. The board sat on top of the engine cover.
