Cataract Surgery

I waited until the surgery was completed before posting this.

I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes and the only regret I have is waiting too long to have it done.

I can only say to anyone who is needing this type surgery or are considering it is based on my experience,don't hesitate. Of course,you will have to get a profession medical opinion obviously,but it is getting to be a rather routine procedure - of course,any surgery is never routine as we all know. But the medical community has made great advances in this area.

Each eye surgery took about 15 minutes and it's done on an out patient basis.

I can't describe how great it is to only have to wear reading glasses and to be able to wear sunglasses while driving without needing the "slipover" type.

B47, you are so right. Had my left eye done back in Jan. Right was ok but left was starting to look like looking thru a haze. 15 minute outpatient procedure, wear eye guard for two days, and prefect sight!!!
If you have one thats "beginning" all you need to do is tell the doc that it is "starting to affect my normal daily routine, and it affects my vision".
Minute insurance co. gets that from the doc, you should be good to go.

Yep - being a type 2 diabetic,I have my eyes checked every six months and doctor said I was getting close to needing the surgery.

Wore my eye guard only while sleeping for first couple nights. Still taking drops,which is a bit annoying, but well worth the temporary inconvenience.

BCBS picked up almost everything.

Glad to hear it went well. My doctor says I will have to have it done in a year or so. Between not seeing so well out of my right eye, and being deaf in my right ear.....the golden years can kiss my....well you know.

Congrats - I started in my teens. I'll give you another 25-30 years before cataracts show up.

Eyeglasses - not so long with your drinking problems.

Reading glasses at approx. 46, distance vision (right eye) approx 10 years later, distance (left eye) about five years ago. B47 is right in the time frame for cataracts. But by that time it might be two minutes in an optometrists chair vs. 15-20 in an ophthalmologists chair.

A guy at work just had the surgery on Tuesday. As of today he still cant see and his eye is swollen. They are now worried about permanent damage.

Thanks - sorry to hear about the guy at work. Permanent damage is something to fear and is one reason I waited. After all, they are inserting a foreign object in your eyes

BTW - the inserts each have their own serial number and they are given to you.

Heard through the grapevine about a fellow I used to know in Moab who died from cataract surgery. Not sure of the details, will find out more next week when I head back to Moab for a visit. Have to believe it was for some other reason.

Can NSA track those serial numbers?
