China Made GM SUV

Being on the tooling end of the automotive industry, I can tell you that nothing out there is all American made. The closest you're going to get is a Toyota or Honda as far as parts and assembly are concerned. For the past 15yrs the "Big 3" in the auto tooling industry has been Honda, Toyota, & Nissan. 20yrs ago 90% of my business was with GM/Ford/Chrysler. I have seen less than a dozen injection molds from any of these in the past10yrs. Detroit is the indicator on American made. We have become a "soft product" nation.

Yep, just because it has an American "badge" doesn't mean most if not all of it wasn't made somewhere else!

I will strive to buy American when its feasible, but I won't subsidize them just because. Value is king when it comes time to open my checkbook.

My UTV is a Chinese 'clone'. Mostly of the Yamaha Rhino, but with the Can-Am 800 v-twin. It cost me $9400 brand new loaded (winch, doors, roof, windshield, fancy wheels, electric dump bed, LED off road lights). A comparable Polaris Ranger would have cost me about $18k brand new.

Of course, its is not as high overall quality as the Polaris, but I didn't expect it to be. Nobody buys a VW and then expects to compare it to a Mercedes Benz in quality. The interior and body plastics are not finished as nice as a Polaris, but mechanically, its been a beast. I figure for about 50% the money, I got 90% of the vehicle.

I do not feel bad for buying Chinese because there is no way I would have bought a new Polaris. I did not cost an American company anything, because they wouldn't have gotten my money in the first place. Now if Polaris coulda built me a comparable ranger for oh, say even $12-13K I would have went that way. It's not about lowest price, its what you get for the money.
