Nothing new other than they're going to market them here. GM, Ford, and Fiat/Chrysler have had a China presence for years and have been building millions of vehicles there. Its not a game changer, its not an anything changer.
Even if they're total junk people are going to buy them if they're priced right. Look at the garbage we pay for in RV's.

Very Scary. Their product quality control can and does get people killed. Has GM thought this through?

Sometimes there are behind the scenes reasons for where a product is made. When I worked at Caterpillar, the UAW was upset about a specific product being produced in France. What they did not take into account was that that product, being made in France, allowed a much lower import tax on the entire remaining Caterpillar product line being sold in France. Making Caterpillar more competitive as a complete product line and making more jobs for everyone associated with Caterpillar.
China is as huge market for GM and especially for Buick. There are undoubtedly some good strategic reasons for what they are doing.
P.S. Let's make sure that this thread doesn't get "out of hand".

Acadian Bob is right, sometimes there are bigger reasons. The reason for posting to spark discussion that even though they may be built in China. They are acceptable quality for GM to market here. I remember the Mercury Capri built in Germany imported to Canada in the 1970's. They rusted but so did everything else at the time. My Daughters Jetta is built in Mexico when I had a Passat it was built in Germany. Both run or ran fine.
In 2018 the Ford Ranger comes back and a deal is being discussed with UAW for this. Toyota Corolla are made right here in Kitchener and they are moving to Mexico to make more room for RAV 4 production.
Where something is made doesn't matter. The ISO or what ever standards dictate the quality of what you buy.

If you google them, you can find a lot of the info. They are currently only available in china but will reach other markets including the US this summer.
They also state the reason for importing them instead of producing them here is they are not expecting enough sales volume to support a second manufacturing facility. Sounds like they have a viable reason and makes good business sence. Likely it will be just as reliable as everything else on the market.

I have been testing them at work, they are a lot like the Enclave but a smaller, but bigger than the Encore.

I work for, but don't speak for GM, I also don't know the backstory for GM to sell it in the US.
My thoughts: - GM is competing all over the world with vehicles produced in "low cost" countries.
- The people who buy it would have bought a similar vehicle from a competitor
- The profits still go to a US company supporting US works and stockholders
- Always look at who manufactured the product you are buying , vote with your money (New Balance sells shoes made in the US and China that look/cost the same)
- For all the rants the UAW has received, they do good work
- If you have healthcare, retirement and safe working conditions thank a union member (I am not union, and don't want to be, but I have respect for what they do and what they have fought for).

You've got to be kidding!
What about this makes you think that gm is the only one with recalls or the only vehicles that people get killed in. One subbed out part can cause issues especially when most of the problems were with younger unskilled drivers.
Hard to find your statement a viable argument.
Heard anything about takata airbags?
And they were used in almost every brand.

It is truly a World Market now. Nothing is going to change that. Remember that China makes all that expensive APPLE stuff, and quality does not seem to suffer.
That said, Apple does have a much better history of caring about quality than GM ever did.
"Nuff said.

I know other manufacturers are going through recalls due to Chinese suppliers quality control.
I did not intend to rail specifically against GM. I just thought about timing, why, when they are still dealing with a massive recall and the 13 deaths related to a faulty ignition switch made by a supplier in China.
Tell me more about the "younger unskilled drivers" issue. Are you talking about kids hanging a ton of stuff on the key chain?

Majority of victims were under 25, several were in extinuating situations or intoxicated or impaired states, and severely weighted keychains were common issues.
Actually there were close to 124 associated deaths presumably and 275 injuries.
Gm was fined about $900 million, and to show how this ranks to other manufacturers, Toyota was fined over a billion$ from their recalls over the runaway vehicles (of which one vehicle i was working on was part of that investigation)
Google it!!
I think people need to know real details before they go spouting off info! And obviously shouldn't on something they know little about!
And almost all the ignition supplier details were addresed and are the result of primarily one engineer.
