Nothing new other than they're going to market them here. GM, Ford, and Fiat/Chrysler have had a China presence for years and have been building millions of vehicles there. Its not a game changer, its not an anything changer.

Even if they're total junk people are going to buy them if they're priced right. Look at the garbage we pay for in RV's.

Thumbs down

Very Scary. Their product quality control can and does get people killed. Has GM thought this through?

Sometimes there are behind the scenes reasons for where a product is made. When I worked at Caterpillar, the UAW was upset about a specific product being produced in France. What they did not take into account was that that product, being made in France, allowed a much lower import tax on the entire remaining Caterpillar product line being sold in France. Making Caterpillar more competitive as a complete product line and making more jobs for everyone associated with Caterpillar.

China is as huge market for GM and especially for Buick. There are undoubtedly some good strategic reasons for what they are doing.

P.S. Let's make sure that this thread doesn't get "out of hand".

Acadian Bob is right, sometimes there are bigger reasons. The reason for posting to spark discussion that even though they may be built in China. They are acceptable quality for GM to market here. I remember the Mercury Capri built in Germany imported to Canada in the 1970's. They rusted but so did everything else at the time. My Daughters Jetta is built in Mexico when I had a Passat it was built in Germany. Both run or ran fine.
In 2018 the Ford Ranger comes back and a deal is being discussed with UAW for this. Toyota Corolla are made right here in Kitchener and they are moving to Mexico to make more room for RAV 4 production.

Where something is made doesn't matter. The ISO or what ever standards dictate the quality of what you buy.
