Chinese tires at Car dealer

Well it was coming I guess. I was at a Hyundai dealer and noticed Nanking winter tires that come with the winter package. When I asked they indicated that they are "approved" by Hyundai.

I told them that I would not buy the vehicle with those tires and wanted Yokohama. They caved and got the Yokos with no up charge.

So guys its time to take a stand before we are discussing tire blow outs on our TV.

Check your DOT tire codes. They will tell you who (the factory and country) made the tire with the Yoko brand name. Even Goodyear has tires made in China.

The Chinese make 80% of the tires sold in the world. Some factories are better than others. When you buy an "off brand" the US DoT (or Canadian in your case) is your only quality check.

When you buy a brand name (like Goodyear, Firestone, Yoko, etc) there are two levels of QC. They are first checked by the DoT and then by the brand manufacturer for compliance since the brand's good name is "riding on those tires."
