The searing is a "wives tale".... Research it. Start out cool and end hot.

I watch Alton Brown...Good Eats episode "family roast". It's in the science. FWIW

I have the Traeger Little Tex. Big enough to cook lots of ribs or a shoulder, little enough to throw in the truck and take to the campground.

Treager is probably the premier brand.
I have a pit boss.

I buy my pellets at napa whom is a treager dealer $14.00 a bag

We found the green mountain grill to be a little heavier construction than treager.

How quickly do these go through a bag of pellets? I realize it probably depends on the temperature setting, but lets say you are doing something at 250 degrees....how much pellets would you go through in a 5 or 6 hr cook?

I've had mine since the first of October and went thru 1 and a half bags.

Long smokes use pellets up .
Grilling not so much.
