Most bank cards can be somewhat protected by you being texted immediately when the card is used. I have a $100 limit, that is if the charge is over a $100 I get a text. I also get a text if the card is used out of my area. Not much of a pain to get the text... it makes me glad that I can get an alert if my card is being abused.

Go online to your bank and look under Security settings for credit and debit cards.

That is the same way we do it. When we are on vacation my wife carries her credit card and I carry mine which are from different companies. That way if my card loss or stolen and we have to cancel it and still have my her card we can use or the other way around. Our travel card that we both carry and charges go to the same account has different numbers on each card so if cancel one card we still have the other one we can still use.
