Detectors location

I resently returned from a trip with my new Solera and the only thing I have to question is the location of the smoke and CO detectors. The smoke detector is right over the kitchen sink almost above the stove. I've been in firefighting for over 32 years and we always tell people to put smoke detectors near bedrooms and in hallways, not in kitchens. Then the CO detector is located right next to the coach door and in the instruction manual it states not to install the detector within 12 inches of a door, window or other opening. I moved my smoke detector back to the bed room area myself, as for the CO detector it's build into the cabinet so that's another matter.
