You just put them on top of the carpet where the corners of the slides run. I made some from one of those carpet protectors they sell at a office supply store and cut them to about 4 inches wide and they stay on the carpet because of the little fingers they have on the reverse side they work real well.

That's what I'm thinking. For $55.00 you can make several to fit your needs from one carpet protector.
If your going to make your own using the office floor make sure you put making tape over the cut and use a band saw to cut it. Cutting with a circular saw may cause it to break and a jigsaw may do this also. The tape helps to minimize the burr that will form from the heat of the saw blade.

After we removed the carpet, we got 2 very light marks on the linoleum and we just cut 2 rubber backed carpet runners to lay in the floor for the slide to rest on in the travel position.
