Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand

I'm posting this because I know you are all caring people. A regular poster on another forum I frequent is from Christchurch, New Zealand. He was just today able to find access to the internet. His business was right at the center of the earthquake and the building collapsed and crushed two buses in the street. He survived and then rushed out to help other survivors and recover the dead.

I know how even though most of us have never met, we sort of become "family" in a way. Seeing the pictures of destruction in New Zealand on TV is one thing, but then reading a first-hand account from a "forum buddy" puts life into perspective.

If any of you are so inclined, please remember the people of Christchurch in your prayers.

yes, we spent 2 weeks in New Zealand, about 5 years ago.
we spent a good amount of time in Christchurch. in fact, the DW lit a candle for her mom in the cathedral.

we did a lot of walking around that area and seeing the destruction is very painful. living in California, we know all too well how devastating it must be.
as a firefighter, i worked the Northridge earthquake, when we lived in SoCal.
but this one has done way more damage.
