First Bucket List item crossed off.
Ever since I was old enough to have to shave,I was always curious to try a straight blade shave. I would watch the old movies where the barber or actor would sharpen the straight razor on the leather strap, put the hot towels on the guy's face, lather him up and shave. I never got around to having it done until the other day.
I recently found a barber shop that has a barber that does straight blade shaving. So I went for it. I got the hot towel treatment plus he also used a cold towel. He used really thick lather and worked it in really well and gave me the closest smoothest shave I ever had in my 50+plus years of dragging a safety razor across my old face.
I also got the fancy toilet water splashed on afterwards and that was great also.

Nice. I have always wanted to try that. What did they charge you if you don't mind me asking?

I had a straight razor shave every Saturday when I was in the military overseas. I loved it way better than any other shave, since getting out of the military I have not had a shave with a razor in 5 years. I use an electric beard trimmer that gets pretty close. I hate razors on my face but I would get a straight razor shave anytime. Glad you enjoyed it, every man should have at least one in his lifetime.

As pricey as good name safety razors are getting, that may not be a bad deal for the royal treatment.
I have never experienced a straight razor shave either.

Nothing beats the feeling of a straight razor shave. Very hard to find any barber's that do this anymore and 20 bucks is not that bad of a price. I often thought about buying one and trying it but I would be afraid of cutting my throat.

Many many years ago I had a straight razor shave in Taiwan. Was the best and closest shave I ever had and did not need to shave again for 3 days.
I tried it myself a couple of times but could not duplicate the results.
Would like to have one again by a pro.

That price isn't unreasonable! I'll have to move that up on my last as well! Wiscampin, that made me laugh out loud at work!

Thanks - now that I'm retired,I don't get a haircut as often as I used to,so I'm thinking about getting a straight razor shave every other haircut.

At first I thought $20 was a bit much, especially considering I got a haircut at the same visit. But the barber spent a good 20 minutes on the shave,so I didn't say anything and will go back.
I would never try shaving myself with a straight razor either

Same here - I wouldn't be able to duplicate the results either, especially of having the chair recline, folding my hands across my stomach and having the barber do his stuff.
Hope This isn't the start of becoming gay.

Twenty dollars isn't bad at all. There is a place in my area called The Art Of Shaving, prices start at thirty five and go up from there. But it great!
