First fall

Well, I really did it this morning. Told my wife she could leave me alone for a couple of hours and not worry. Went out on porch to wave good bye. After she was gone about 5 minutes, I went to go back in house, wasn't paying attention, and put one crutch on a slick spot and it went skidding, and I went down hard. Didn't fall off porch, landed at top of ramp. After laying there 5 minutes, I was able to roll over to side of porch, sit on edge, get my crutches and go back in house. I landed on my stump, but didn't do any damage, other than scraping hand and elbow. Not even a week since amputation, and I was really worried I would be back in hospital. Used more pain medication today than I have since day after surgery. I felt stupid and embarrassed when I told my wife. Learned a hard lesson about being over confident.

Recently heard... the first stage of being great at something is stinking at it. You'll get there.

I've been on crutches many times and took just as many falls. Slipping on a wet spot can take you down real fast! I'm glad that you didn't get injured seriously. And I know that there's likely some really trying times but I really admire your positive attitude. Looking forward to reading about your next camping trip.

Glad to hear you are OK. I see you are from New Philly. I was raised there until the ripe old age of 13. My older brother lives in Strasburg.

Richard, I too am glad you weren't injured beyond a few scrapes.

You reminded me of this quote:

It's not how many times you fall that matters; it's how many times you get up.

Would that we all have the faith, courage and determination you have shown.

God Bless You. Hope to cross paths with you out on the road some day!

harderd- I moved to New Philly over 20 years ago after living in the big city of Canton, bought a house just north of Tuscarawas. I was raised in Brilliant, Ohio just south of Steubenville, Ohio. Don't know why I stayed in a big city for so long.
To everyone- thanks for your support!!!!! I am looking forward to another camping trip, soon as I can find someone to drive the MH. For now, doctor and especially DW won't let me drive. That sucks.

It is a small world. My dad worked for Timken and he was transfered to SC when I was 13. I went to work for Timken at 19 and retired 5 monthe ago with 37.7 years. I made frequent trips to the NP plant.

My brother is the H of B&H Landscaping in Stasburg.
