IIRC the reason the R was changed to be right after the P was due to some accidents. Not sure of the cause.

I think Chevy is the only one with the goofy shift all the others were PRNDL

How about the Edsel, push buttons in the center of the steering wheel if I remember correctly. Before or after Chrysler products ? What year, anyone remember?

Edsel's were produced in 58, 59 & 60.
