Not sure I follow your question. The price will fluctuate depending on supply and demand no matter if the fuel is sold or not.

If the supply is up and price is down, would people fill there cars and take a trip that they may not have done with higher prices?
If everyone spent an extra $50-100 in fuel, that would help the supply to be used up and create a demand to produce more fuel. OR is the cost per gallon higher to produce than the price it's selling for?
I worked in sales and I would tell my customers it's better for business to sell 100 units @ 20 cents profit each versus 20 units @ 50 cents each. Do the math!

I had said this before. But I feel for the workers but the oil companies, regardless of oil price, make billions in profits a year.. If the workers are loosing jobs, it ain't because of low oil price, that's the reality, it's the companies being greedy.

We have letting this thread ride, but be careful that politics does not enter the equation. There were a couple of posts mentioning social security, and that is a bit too far off topic to allow.

Back to gas prices.

MtnGuy, I wasn't being political at all. No different that above threads. But if that is how you feel, Ok. Didn't hurt my feelings!

Sorry, I did not mean that your post was political (which it was not) but things were tending to get a bit more off topic, and wanted it to get back on track with gas prices. From past experience with gas prices discussions, the threads do tend to get political and some have to be closed. We try not to be too heavy handed, but still try to keep threads on topic.

$2.19 in the Chicago burbs. Still can't figure out how it went from $1.85 a few weeks ago to $2.19 then $2.09 then back up to $2.19?

Chicago NW burbs just paid $1.87. Less then a mile down the road it was $2.09 to $2.19.

What I don't under stand is, years back when a barrel was this cheap, gas was under a $1.00 a gallon!
