I'm watching BSG tonight and have a question - they're making a big deal about the melting ice being the end of the season.

What's the problem - when the ice melts, the miners can just go back to mining, they just won't have the ice, they'll have water.

What am I missing -or is it just drama?

Just drama...

The show then becomes BSG (without the under the ice, bit). Some go out on dredgers vacuuming gold in exactly the same way but without 6' of ice above them. Others go out on a barge with a back hoe and scoop up the bottom of the sea bed.

Yep I think you're correct.

Another question - when did the Father and Son team of the Christina Rose break up or did they?

I see the Son on the ice,but not the Father. Or is the Father just taking some time off and will be back with the CR after the ice melts?

If the CR is the dredge with the big yellow back hoe lashed to the front, I don't think dad does winter in Alaska. He leaves that to the boy and comes back for the summer season.

Yes the CR was the first dredge with a back hoe on it - there's now another similar barge in the show also.

Perhaps that is how the Father and Son work during the Winter - I don't remember them splitting up although the Son has threatened to leave more than once.

Gold Rush

I think we're a bit behind with the episodes in Canada. I saw some this summer while in Washington, Montana and Arizona but I seem to be watching some out of sequence now. We are also just getting some other shows I saw during the summer too. Some I might watch but some I know to give a wide berth and avoid (Lizzard Lick Towing, for starters). I'll watch The Hunt, the new Gold Rush, when it starts in October and the maybe some of the swamp shows from the SE USA. I do wish we could see some of the RV shows I saw, I'll keep my fingers crossed
