Anyone watch Gold Rush on the Discovery Channel? I have watched every espisode since it started and am pulling for the guys to make it big.
A lot of questions about the show that are not answered - how much risk capital is invested, how much fuel do they keep on hand, what happened to Jim Harness - I know he was fired on the last series, but his name is shown on this series, etc.
Oh and BTW - don't bother signing up for the $100,000.00 prize to be given away next Friday - I already did and am feeling lucky.
Yeah, I’ve been watching the show and haven’t missed any episodes either. By now they should have enough experience and made enough stupid mistakes that they should be able to find sufficient amount of gold to make a serious profit. I consider the Hoffmans true idiots but I’m hooked on watching them fail. I don’t like the fact that too many of the situations are manufactured for the TV screen.

So you are comparing the Hoffmans to the blind squirrel who occasionally finds a nut - perhaps.
I agree that some (or many) of the situations on the show seem to be manufactured - I mean just look at all of that brand new heavy duty equipment they now have - that stuff ain't cheap. I know that Todd went to Dallas to get some more capital, so that may be a situation that perhaps the Discovery Channel is helping them out with.
I would love to know how much money the Discovery Channel gives to the Hoffman crew. I would also love to know how much the investor is putting up for this season and perhaps I missed it, what percentage the owner of the claim is getting. The real gold is the revenue the show is generating for the Discovery Channel.

On the first show last night, they made a deal with the clam owner, he get's 10%. Every year it is "gold or bust". Money is coming from somewhere, I too wonder how much Discovery channel is paying.

I think the Hoffman's will do well this year, but starting over every year...? That is a bad long term plan.
Dakota Fred is going to hit it big.
It is a show, not reality.
I got the same feeling. But I think there has to be some reality in it.
But there are some things about it that I don't quite understand - they show the temperature to be in the minus, but yet the guys are outside wearing just a jacket.
Been watching from the beginning. You will notice that with the exception of the two dozers everything else is Volvo. And fairly new looking.Even with investors that equipment aint cheap.I'm thinking that their are some company sponsors in this thing as well. That's on the Hoffman's two sites.Parker also got him a Volvo excavator as well.

Good point - I never noticed that.
I don't recall Volvo being a sponsor on the program and would they put up that kind of money without being a sponsor?
If Volvo is some sort of sponsor, old Dakota Fred must have ticked them off because he doesm't have any Volvo equipment.
I wonder what Jimmy Dorsey is doing now? He’s the one that got into a fight and ended up leaving the show in mid-season.
I also wonder how James Harness managed to get more morphine when he ran out in the first season? In one episode he was portrayed as addicted to morphine for his back pain and unable to function because he didn’t have anymore of the drug, and the very next episode he has morphine again and he’s working.

Once you catch that gold fever it is hard to break.
Here are a few nuggets from Alaska as well as here in Arizona.
I use my Minelab gold metal detector

And I thought I watched the show closely, but you got me beat with these questions.
I remember Dorsey and IMO they are better off without him
Good question about Harness and his morphine habit - I didn't know he was taking morphine. I knew it was some sort pill and you see in one shot that one of his bottles had the Safeway store symbol on the cap.
I wonder if his pain bothered him much while he and his girlfriend were staying in town?
Its simple. The only reason these jackwagons are still mining like this is because no one could turn away from the train wreck of the first season. After that, Discovery made sure they were able to make more seasons....I guarantee they had a lot of help keeping things rolling after that first season.
