Not true. The alternator is putting out a higher voltage and the battery is just another LOAD (that why it's being charged) for the alternator to supply.
(You could quibble about the battery "filtering" any ripple in the alternators output, but overall, the battery is still a LOAD.)

Agree with everything you say except once the engine is started, you can remove the battery and the engine will still run off the alternator/generator.

since the alternator is putting out higher voltage than the battery, the alternator is the power source. without an alternator the battery is source.

A vehicle with a generator will continue to run if you disconnect the battery, however the same with an alternator will not unless it supplied with 'exciting' power, an alternator needs power to produce power.

In reality they both require excitation voltage which regulates the voltage level. When either unit is "self excited" it will run on without a external power supply once up to speed. The difference between a generator and alternator is the generator excitor is stationery poles on the exterior of the case. With the armature rotates a commutator converts the voltage to DC.
In the alternator the field poles rotate with the controlled voltage/excitation to maintain a AC output from the Stator 13-14 volts are output, then converted to DC power.
So they both require excitation power and designed properly can self excite.

A vehicle is DC correct? If that is true, then which way does the juice flow from the battery? From the positive post?
Here is a hint, Why do you you disconnect the negative post when servicing?

The current flows from the negative side. This is why older Brit cars were positive earth.
The reason you should ALWAYS disconnect the negative terminal FIRST, is so if you slip with the wrench and touch the vehicles sheet metal or chassis you don't short out and cause a shower of sparks and damage to your wrench!

Disconnecting negative first has nothing to do with the direction of flow of the current. If you were on an old Brit car, you'd want to disconnect the positive first.
