Hand controls

Need advice, thoughts, etc. I will have my right leg amputated in 3 weeks, and am debating which might be the best way to go. Left foot gas pedal or hand control for the throttle. Does any one have experience with either system? I am thinking the left foot pedal, I would rather have both hands on the wheel, but with the foot box setup in the E450 cab, the brake pedal is very close to the wheel well, and no room for a gas pedal.

With the OP stating he wants both hands on the wheel and there is no room for a left hand floor accelerator, maybe a right thigh control or this hand control that allows both hands on the steering wheel.

Looks like there are a lot of options for hand controlled accelerators out there. I have worked on several cars and light trucks with handicap controls and on test drives found them easy to use. Had a customer who was a Vietnam era chopper pilot who was a parapalegic and I used to work on his 84' Chevy blazer all the time. I remember having to rebuild the linkage and heim joints one time for him.
I think all this new stuff is more electronic and less mechanical.

My grandfather had little use of his right leg and drove left legged for years with no modifications. I would seek out professional help and look at all options available to you.

AquaMan- did he use left foot for gas also? Right now, i can use right foot on gas, just can't lift it off the pedal.

Yes he used left for gas and brake. May not have been the safest of options, but he made it work. This was also 25 yrs ago.
