I have a 6gal/150psi pancake compressor and it works great for our vehicles and rv tires but cycles pretty quick to keep up, with that said I don't see the 3gal unit doing that task but would be a handy unit or everything smaller.

That's the unit I keep in the camper...bought it for 35 bucks. Perfect for topping all the tires off before a trip. Yamaha 2400 runs it too.

I have only been into HF twice, and maybe spent a total of $20 for both trips. I am a "tool guy" but since I am a carpenter by trade and also like to mess with auto repair/modification I just can't bring myself to buy cheap tools since I make my living with them. I would rather by quality tools that last for years, than cheap ones that only last for a couple uses, I have found you truely do get what you pay for with tools.

i never blow the lines out as the anti freeze i put into the lines displaces the water anyway. maybe it would take less antifreeze to winterize, but i would rather be safe than sorry.

Agreed, in your case it makes complete sense to buy quality. HF sells a bunch of chinese stuff that won't last long under constant use. For some of us that might use a tool once or twice a year it doesn't make sense to spend a lot though. There are still tools I refuse to buy from HF; dies/taps, screwdrivers, drills, etc.

I think this is how a lot of us feel. If I was an auto mechanic at a dealer, you can be sure I'd have a set of MAC or Snap-On tools in my drawer--better quality and longer lasting. But for us weekend warriors, it doesn't make sense to spend a bunch of dough on a tool you're going to use twice a year. HF makes tools that, while aren't great quality, do perform well enough for most of us. And when they break, I'm not all that upset. Certain tools I won't buy there, but lots that I will.

I actually do both--compressed air first to get most of the water out (pre-winterizing, if you will--for the fall when I might be done camping but might be getting out once more,) and then full winterizing with antifreeze.

While these little compressors are nice, what good are they on the road unless you pack a generator at all times. I carry a nice 12v compressor and made an extension to hook to the trailer battery so I can top up the truck or trailer.

X2, bought this one from Lowes for $39.95 and it works great. Set the pressure 1# higher than max on the tires and inflate the trailer tires to that and by the time I get the TPS sensors on the pressure is right on the money.

I am only in my 14th year, I started right out of tech school at 19. My dad was a GC for over 30 years and so was my grandfather. I guess it runs in the family...

That was an added benefit of installing the on-board air compressor and tank onto my truck, I could use it for more than just airing up the bags. I ran an air line to the rear of the truck so I can use the system to air up tires and toys for the kids when camping, and I also carry 2-25' air hoses in the truck so I have more reach.

Even though I can't run air tools, although I may install a second 100% cycle compressor and a 2nd 3gal tank so I could use air tools off the truck, the system has come in very handy!

The one benefit us motorhome owners have! My compressor fits in a compartment that has an outlet in it. The added bonus of using air tools has came in handy on occasions. That compressor in the picture will not run air tools though, my dad has one and it takes way too long to recover. I have a Porter Cable with a bigger rank.

the things i have bought specifically for the camper from HF

1. small pancake compressor
2. 150 torque wrench (on sale for 10.00)
3. plastic zip ties
4. assorted tools, screw drivers, wrenches, pliers, hammer, etc etc that i wont use alot but wanted to have a small dedicated tool bag to keep in the camper
5. small axe
6. electrical tape and small assortment of connectors
7. ball stretch cords (for hoses, extension cords)
8. I'm sure a few more small things i'm forgetting

mostly things that are non essential things so the quality doesnt have to be top notch but will get the job done
