The scam going around here is someone calls a business. It's usually a restaurant and they'll call around 5pm on a Friday night, just as their "rush hour" starts. The caller will tell the owner he's from the power company and his bill is late and if he doesn't pay right away, they're going to turn his power off in the middle of his Friday night business.

What gives it away is that they'll tell the business owner to go down to local CVS and buy some kind of debit card in the amount they say he owes, and then give them the number.

I love the approach my brother used to use

I see the part used to use and wonder if the same thing happened to him as it did to me. Put my niece on the phone who starts talking the kid talk and all of a sudden after about a minute she starts to cry. The guy on the other end apparently told her he was going to kill her and her family and to sleep with one eye open. Not good....and no way to find the clown that did it.

In his case it was just because his son grew up. I feel bad for your niece. I hope there were no lasting repercussions. There's some real sickos out there.

Did you report whatever company they said they were from?

Me too. If they keep calling back, they will get a tongue lashing. (I'm a truck driver, and have a colorful vocabulary...)

I'm a little too truthful, I guess.
