Hot Sweaty Man - Warning

Yes, that's me...Mr. Hot and Sweaty.

But seriously, I've always had a problem of sweating a lot at any temp above 75 degrees when I'm outside doing some work or enjoying a day at the amusement park with the kids or whatever. Once I start sweating for the day it is tough for me to stop. Its as if the sweat blocks my pores and it just makes it hard for my body to breathe. Don't know the scientific ins and outs of it, but that's what it seems like anyway. I've looked it up before and I probably have hyperhidrosis. I don't stink and my anti-p doesn't wear off. I just sweat a lot from that areas that don't have the anti-p on.

I figure this is a good place to ask this question because many of the people here were probably tent campers during the summer before they were spoiled by the AC upgrade.

So what can I do to keep cool? We plan on doing a ton of camping this summer and that means that I will have much more outdoor activities than normal. It really takes the energy out of me. I've heard that cashews and almonds help. Has anyone heard this? Also if I take a drink of something really cold and kind of keep in in my mouth for about 15 seconds or so then that also helps. Kinda like the brain freeze ice cream thing...seems to fool my system into thinking it is cold and shuts down most of the sweating, at least for a few minutes.

I know you aren't docs here (or maybe some of you are/were) but I know since FRF has mostly outdoor-oriented members you would probably have some great suggestions.

Any takers on this? Or does this topic just stink? Was hoping someone else here was in the same boat as me.

Having completed a few tours in the sand box (as have others I am sure), I found that evaporative wraps work very well.

12 Pack MiraCoolŪ Evaporative Cooling Bandanas - Individual Colors: IndustrialSafetyGear.com

They have gel caps inside that swell up with water and then evaporate into the environment reducing the temperature of the wrap.

They work best in drier air, but as long as there is a dew point spread they will work pretty good.

I use these as well and keep a few in the camper.

The wraps (or even a cool towel) work well.

Your clothing choices make a difference- find fabrics that breathe and feel good for you.

If you wear a hat, regularly dip it in water.

I find a fan makes a huge amount of difference when I'm outside.

I spent a few summers as a kayak guide. I found that my tolerance for heat really increased the more I was outside in the sweaty hot.

Good luck you sweaty, sexy, man.

I'd recommend checking out sites related to the hikers on the Applachian Trail....they have many great solutions to many problems dealing with what you are asking, just need to see what can crossover to the outdoor camper group
I'm on the AT's blog and it's amazing how much useful tips and tricks I've used from them...When you get folks hiking over 2100 miles, they become extremely resourceful!

I do not sweat everywhere but doing anything over 75 degrees my head sweats big time. I use the Enduracool Multi-Cool. Its available at Lowes for about $25. It also has some sun block protection. You can wear it different ways. I wear it as a bandana when I ride my motorcycle mainly to protect from the sun. I wear it as a skull cap + neck skirt when mowing the lawn, camping, etc.

I can get you a wet wall setup that we are in the process of supplying pipe to a mfr that builds them. They use them on either end of hog buildings to keep the hogs cool!

For real though...breathable (Nike Drifit) shirts, keep your head cool, and flip flops.

I usually walk around in my Speedo and sandles at campgrounds if im hot..

Just ordered a few things from Amazon, so we'll see how this goes. I want to do some fishing (where there isn't any shade) and I would be killed in the sun in about 30 min. I'm trying out this vest too as it seems to have generally good reviews. Chill-Its 6665 Evaporative Cooling Vest - Safety Vests - Amazon.com

Thanks! Can I get some battery acid for my eyes now? Looked at that for 1/100th of a second and I will pay money to never see it again.

It almost makes me regret my joke! almost. Blake definitely wins today's internet.

The other thing we've kicked around are one of those misters (water sprayers) in fan or awning form. Not sure if it would feel good or just more damp.

I think Timmy "aqua man" has said misters.

Traveled to Vietnam for a month and it was a bit hot and humid.
I purchased a few items from LL Bean that were fast drying if nothing else, one pair of "convertible" pants, and some shorts that are fantastic at wicking moisture.
Agree on the neck wrap. They work great.
Frankly, long as my shirt is a little long so it can be left un-tucked I stay cooler.

And Blake - that was harsh... oh so harsh.

We've used the misters on our fans outside. Indeed they work, but since we don't have any really expensive ones, you might find yourself wet after too long in front of them. In the summer, I don't care. They do work quite well.

Excessive sweating is called hyperhydrosis and is pretty common. Google search it. There are prescription deodorants and even surgeries to eliminate the nerves that cause the sweating.

I have similar problems, a little weight loss helps as well.

For me it was the same back in college when I didn't have any extra. Probably could stand to lose 15 lbs though now.

We have the standing mister fan, but I found something that will work for people who dry camp.

Search for a video about "5 gallon bucket air conditioners" (no time to find it for ya...gonna be late for work) but it works on 12V, five gallon bucket, some short pieces of PVC, a small 12v fan and ice. Easy to assemble. With the Styrofoam liner for the bucket the ice lasts for HOURS.

Not to jump straight to the panic wagon, but you may want to have your doc check your thyroid function.

I was a heavy sweater in the summertime. Turned out my thyroid was running 50% over what it should have been.

I had radioiodine thyroid ablation done and have significantly reduced my heat tolerance issues.
