As I understand it and I am be wrong here, but the amount of advertisers and the amount they are willing to pay to run ads in a particular newspaper or magazine is dependent upon the circulation (amount of subscriptions they have to show to the advertisers that buy their paper or magazine ). The higher the number, the more they can charge to run the ad. I guess there is no way that a potential advertiser is going to pay money to a paper or magazine based upon anything other than paid subscriptions and people who read the paper or magazine oo the Internet probably don't count.

Thats my take on it - somebody who is more knowledgeable probably can explain it better.
