Just wondering

Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone on here besides me hauls scrap metal for a little extra money on the side? I do it just for the fun of it. To me it's a blast pulling out and unearthing some of the old amazing stuff that's out there! Here are some pictures of my latest project and it's only about half done!!

Can't really tell from the pics, but it looks like you got a lot of scrap stored already - when do you take some or all of it to the recycler?

I'm more of a scrap metal supplier than a collector.
There are a couple guys nearby that make their living collecting scrap, so I make sure they get the leftovers from whatever project I am doing.

Same here. If I kept stuff there would be no end to it.

Once I cut up an old boat trailer that was rotted through. It was so rusted that I couldn't get the wheels and tires off of the axle. We left it out on the curb for the scrap metal guys and it was gone in less than an hour!

Curious, what does a ton of scrap metal fetch $ for you?

Not casting aspersions...but we can't keep metal farm gates, metal grates, man hole covers or anything metal around here that's not locked down. These methheads will steal the lawn chairs out of yards and the guttering off of churches.

But they wouldn't pick a beer can up off the side of the road to save their lives.

When I come up with a pickup load I carry it on to the scrapyard just to keep someone else from hauling it for me.

But I get enough to pay for a cold beer occasionally.

Man, I need to get rid of some stuff...

I used to scrap stuff out for beer and gas money when I was young and single. Now, it seems I need the time more than the $$$.

I agree with needing the time but my wife enjoys coming along with me when I do it so it's good time together. This is just my storage shop for my scrapping habit my other garage is full of tools and bikes and my tools and a spot big enough to pull cars and trucks in to work on! My buddy got me into doing this and now it seems like the bug has bitten me I am constantly asking everyone if they have scrap they would like to get rid of and whatnot.

Collecting scrap metal that is measured in tons reminded me of theory about men. There are 2 types, one who likes to lift heavy objects and one who does not like to live heavy objects.

Be honest, we all know which category we fall into. If you do all your own maintenance on your truck even up to rebuilding the engine, even if you could afford otherwise,, you like to lift heavy objects. If you would rather pay someone else to do it, then you don't like to lift heavy objects.

Warning, the worst thing a man can do if he does not like to lift heavy objects is marry a woman who does!

I was going to ask where do you get it all from? Good stuff.

I had 3 stainless patio heaters, that we used for Halloween, sitting half way up my drive, and my wife had to run a guy off who was trying to load them into his truck for scrap. I'm surprised they haven't tried taking the screws from my privacy fence!

That blows!! That is NOT the way I do mine I get written permission and in the cases of scrap cars I get the titles signed and in my hand before I touch them! It's not a good way to do it by just taking like that it's always better to do it honestly and way more rewarding as well!

I hope they didn't get any rubber ducks.
