just wondering

It always amazes me what I think about when I wake up at 3AM and can't get back to sleep. This morning, it's about whether or not crutches will fit in my wife's BMW Z4. I'll be using them after my upcoming surgery until I get a prosthetic leg. A real bummer if they won't. I enjoy riding in that car.

Ok. Crutches... surgery... prosthetic leg...
I wouldn't be able to sleep either.
I'm not going to ask why you're having your leg cut off, but I do want to suggest that the crutches will be another thing you can mod!
Tinkering ain't just for trailers!
Good luck with the surgery.
Keep us posted.
I have a sneaking feeling my right leg is gonna go this route. Vein damage... What fun.

I'm thinking the first thing will be a cup holder, for my coffee, like the ones for motorcycle handlebars. Bad accident 6 years ago, have insert in right leg from below knee to halfway to my hip. Everything infected. Good luck with your leg.

He explains it here BB:

season cut short

Richard, praying for peace and restful sleep for you. I know how disturbing those 3 AM moments can be.

The trip with your nephew will be awesome, I bet.
Cup holder, huh? Might want to get a non-spill lid on those cups...
It'd be a shame to waste any of that hard lemonade!
Post some pics of the crutches and let's get to modding' those babies for you!
A Z4 is a terrible thing to waste.

What a great thing you are doing for a nephew. Found this online. Perhaps something similar would solve any issues with the z4. Enjoy the trip.

You do have a right to be concerned, but I GREATLY admire your attitude towards everything. I especially admire your commitment to your nephew. I woke up about 2:45 this morning and at 3, went to the garage and worked on Weezer's roller rack. Went back to bed at 4 and got up @ 8.

We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers as you go thru this trying situation. If you need anything, just let us know.

Twenty years ago, I shattered a heal and was on crutches for 26 weeks, a friend, who owned a tooling shop created a coffee cup holder for my crutches using a Hine Joint that was used in racing car suspensions. Worked great with a travel mug going up and down stairs.
Amazon sells quite a few types. One thing I did learn is don't fill the cup all the way to the top, even with a locking lid.

I like those folding crutches! When I had a Harley, I kept seeing cup holders at bike rallyes, that mounted on handlebars and swung in all directions. Maybe that would work. OC- Ever since they tried to fix my leg 6 years ago, I've been suffering a painful, non-functional leg with no knee. I keep thinking it'll only get better for me now. My twin brother kept me going after my accident, even though he was in the last stage of his cancer. Can't let him down.
