I can't post these to my blog yet, because my wife might see them.
Those of you who follow my blog
(link) know we are building a cabin at our lake lot. The missus and I talked some time ago about what we were going to do for the walls inside of the cabin. She was favoring just doing drywall because it's the cheapest option. We even agreed on a color for the paint and decided that we would have cedar wainscoting to give it a touch of that cabin-y feel. We rented a cabin in Gatlinburg a few years ago that had knotty pine tongue-and-groove (AKA Car Siding) on the walls and we both liked it a lot, but the cost looked prohibitive. Until...
I started adding up the cost of the drywall, and paying someone to tape and mud it, and the primer and paint, and then the cedar wainscoting, and when it was all said and done, doing knotty pine t&g was only going to be about $450-600 more than just doing the drywall and wainscot. Decision made.
Me and my buddy and his son had a 'guys weekend' at the lake, under the guise that we would hang the drywall on the bottom floor. In reality I had picked up 80-12' x8" pine boards and stashed them down at the cabin. I was surprised at how quick and easy the t&g was to install. We did the front wall (with the door) Friday evening, did the left and right walls Saturday morning before going out on the boat, and doing the back wall and half the ceiling on Sunday before going home. I even put up (temporarily) some trim just to get an idea on the finished look.
The wife has NO idea. She is expecting drywall. I even sent her a couple blurry pictures of a corner that I actually took when I did the theater to show her the "progress" She is gonna freak out when she sees it. I know she really really wanted those pine walls, but she thinks she talked me into drywall. She ought to know me better by know.
I'm loving this look!
