Lafayette,LA.

Anyone here live in near Lafayette,LA?

Reason for asking is there's an article in today's Fort Worth Star Telegram newspaper saying that Bell Helicopter will start assembling a new line of helicopters at the Lafayette Regional Airport.

Hiring will start in 2015 with average salaries of $55,000 yearly plus benefits.

Just FYI although I'm sure it's big news in Lafayette already.

Great post and great timing! I'm retiring from active duty in May 14. I own a home in the Lafayette area. I'll start job hunting next month.

Thanks and hope it helps.
I don't know what the economy in Lafayette is,but I'm sure there will be many applicants for those jobs.

Speculation around here is that Bell is looking to get out from their unions thumb- not sure.

Economy in this area is pretty strong driven by the oil industry. It's also not a union environment.

The "not a union environment " thing may be a factor in their decision to locate there IMO.

There is a really nice RV park near there called Bayou Wilderness. Nice folks and
lots to do including a fishin creek along the park. It would be a great place for home basing.

I'm sure that if there's a large influx of people wanting to apply for these jobs, and no adequate housing, that RV park will be noticed.

Look at what's happening in Midland/Odessa Texas and ND because of the increased oil drilling activity.
