It's great the opportunity to voice our opinion. I appreciate everyone's 2 cents on the matter. Sure I could just remove the tanks and take them home but I shouldn't have to. That would be like saying put the rig up on blocks and take the tires home too, why not even the spare, the tv's, the battery and remove the locks. I am looking for a deterent to a would be thief. Sure, if they really want in they will but maybe they will try and locks and such will cause them to go onto the next. I will figure out something to make it more difficult for someone trying to steal.

In Virginia most of the tunnels you must pull off the interstate and the bottles will be inspected to assure that they are off . If you do not read the signs and pull off, expect to be pulled over on the other side of the tunnel and be ticketed. Too many RV tunnel fires.............

Yes after a fire the Fire Marshall / Inspector will come out and check for cause (around here anyway) and could write a citation for the doors being locked. I did say could.

Big fines also at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel for locked propane compartments as they check that the bottles are off at the toll booth.

Also the Tunnels in Baltimore prohibit propane bottles larger than 1 pound; you will need to drive around.

You, of course, can do whatever you want.

I'm talking about it being locked at a storage facility. I think that has been misconstrued. Naturally not when we are using it.

Not sure what the big deal is, just get a cable lock and run the cable thru the handle and thru the camper and you have your theft protection without having to consider locking the door.

We are very fortunate, we have a fenced in storage place that requires key code access and there are tons of cameras around. In storing there for 7+ years, the only thing we have lost there is our dogs when they take off chasing rabbits.

I have a tiny 900 watt generator that I store under the camper and use to charge the batteries at least once a month but usually weekly during Camper Sunday afternoon movies. I don't even bother cable locking it. I guess we are fortunate.

If it burned at the storage facility the same would apply. The Fire Dept would need to check to assure that the bottles were shut off or even there. You could cable lock them to the frame. Doors should not be locked there either.

Are Electric Cars allowed with the big lithium battery that might short and explode?

Maybe common sence isn''t so common for some in some parts of the country anymore.....if you un- lock the doors when hitch'n up and don' t lock 'em up till your back to where you started from, what's the problem?

If I was a thief and I wanted your tanks a slam latch would NOT stop me.
A simple crow bar or nail bar or even the old tire tool and I've got the door
open and now you need tanks AND a new door and frame.

Probably hasn't happened.......to the cars.......Yet ......... so not regulated...... but several propane fires have happened in tunnels. One RV fire shut one of the tunnels on I77 in Virginia for 3-4 months several years ago while repairs were made.

more valuable things to steal around home than propane bottles. Not worth the time.. aaaaaand why just stop at the bottles...... here they would leave the bottles & steal the trailer..........

Learned something new at our U-Haul.

There are two prices for propane.

They rang up the 30 pound bottles at $4.09 per gallon, but when I squawked I mentioned that it was for my RV they reduced it to $3.09

Nothing was written anywhere about there being 2 price structures.

Yes, fortunate. Our storage facility is gated ands needs code access. Still have had theft. Not big items. Wheel chocks, tire covers, power cord, and brake away cable (?) And a few attempts at the propane tanks.

I know they offer 2 different prices, portable propane tanks per gallon and alternate fuel vehicle price which is about 70 cents cheaper around here. Check the website.
