Low Bridge

It is not always tractor trailers that get caught in low bridges. I have been under this bridge many times.....

So he thought his motor home was a mere 9' I guess.
Or that the posted sign of 10' was only a suggestion that didn't concern him and his 13' plus mh.

Can't fix stupid.

I got nervous the other day. New camper is almost 11ft. Got to a arched concrete short tunnel and it said 10 ft. I cleared by a mile, guessing at its lowest points on the sides was 10ft. Middle was prob 15+

Driver is probably still in the motorhome looking for clean, fresh underwear...

And I can only guess what the spouse will do (if there is one)....

Comments say there were 5 kids with minor injuries. I hope they all recover quickly.

I get very nervous with anything less than 13' in fact I'm not sure I would try it. I'm 12'7" and not trusting signs were changed last time they repaved.

I honestly get nervous driving my dually under that bridge. I usually go around it through town. What you can't see here is that the road dips down and goes under the train tracks, the bridge is not raised up. It also is very very narrow.

Being a newbie, I can see how this could happen if the owner did not have a GPS that had clearance heights. If you have the generic GPS, just plug in the end destination and you could get in a mess like this. IF there were clear warning signs of a low clearance way BEFORE this low clearance, then that's a different issue. And what if there was no exit, no way out? Lots of options but it's still sad. Hope all the kids are ok.

Plenty of warning signs and an easy truck route alternative.

Hey - take it easy on the driver. The 10' sign is on the other side of the underpass. . The driver couldn't see it until he/she got thru the underpass.

Amazing that the windshield didn't shatter.

Scootinggranny has a good point. Our Garmin RV760LMT is now worth its weight in gold!

On the way to Goshen last year our Truck GPS tried to route us to a en-route CG via a 10 ft bridge (Ask me to tell you the backing skills required to get me out of THAT mess )That was it, after Goshen I bought the Garmin and on 4 other trips it has warned us about low clearance bridges, switchbacks, and 5T bridges we would have never known about!

This GPS is a good investment for all RV'ers!
