Turbs,

Sorry to hear of your pup's passing. Hardest thing you'll ever have to do in life, IMHO. We've been there twice, with our black lab Zack in 2010 and our boxer Izzy in 2012. I've told people (and not really joking) that making the decision to put a dog to sleep was a harder thing to go through than my divorce was (at least dogs know the meaning of loyalty!).

You're right, you can't ever replace your friend, but opening your home, your life, and your heart to a new dog is the best way to honor his memory. After all, he spent almost 11 years training you to be a good dog owner, he wouldn't want all that effort he put in to go to waste. RIP Toby.

Oh Turbs... sooo sorry for your loss. May happy memories help heal you broken heart. They are never with us long enough.

In time your pain will ease and another little fur face will come into your life to fill the hole left in your heart.

I remember meeting Toby, I think Sunny delight (our yellow lab) came over to visit.
Our hearts go out to you and your family.

Thank you, yes they met in goshen and to my knowledge there's never been a dog he didnt enjoy unless he thought I was in harms way.

Case in point.
Camping one time Amy had toby at some friends camp site visiting and they had a rotwieller whom toby played with for an hour or better untill I walked up then the hair stood up on his back untill I ensured him I canas ok......

Dogs amaze me that way.

Amy says im a dog whisperer....

So very very sorry for your loss. It took me over an hour to read through all the posts because I could not get the tears to quit. Unless you personally go through this, there is no way of knowing the hurt that is involved. We lost our beloved lab mix Sadie four and a half years ago. She was 12 years old. We have since acquired a beautiful labradoodle Bailey who will turn five this spring. God bless you and hang in there.

Turbs:

Unfortunitally, in over 40 years of pet ownership, we have had to let many of our friends go. Some passed over easily, some we had to help with the aid of our vet, and some left us for other homes when we could not properly care for them. However they left us, they are and always will be with us in our hearts.

When the time comes, consider using one of the rescue organizations. Give the gift of a Forever Home to a loving animal, who through no fault of their own, has been abused, thrown away or otherwise not loved enough to be kept. We currently have two rescue dogs that give love back tenfold in our Forever Home.

We have all heard the saying that Little boys (and big ones) can not grow up without a dog. A former fellow worker of mine put it into better perspective, " Dogs cant grow up without a little boy. (and big ones)

God bless

+1 on this. We were fortunate enough to find our tripawd pit bull rescue not too long after we lost our lab. We always say we're not sure who rescued who...

Sorry to hear of your loss, Ron. I think God put dogs on earth to teach us about loyalty. Dogs earn our love by being such great friends. At such times, I like the reminder "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened!" Toby did his job, he made you a better person. God bless you.
