Mississippi River Flooding

Should make for an interesting week of camping by the river. Luckily our spot is far enough away we shouldn't be impacted though......

Unfortunately our local community is being impacted.

We lived in Moline from the fall of 62 until summer of 81 and can't remember many if any years the Mississippi and Rock River didn't flood. Don't remember it being this late tho'.

Yep! If it makes it to our camper there are major problems! That is actually covering a bike path already and the tent campers have to take an alternate route to get to their tents.

1969 flood was a whopper also. IH built a 10' dike around the plant and then 3' of sandbags on top of that. Came to within about a foot of going over. Cost them over $1,000,000 for the dike. We never missed a day of work, but were on pins and needles every day with 10'-12' of water on 2 sides of us.

I worked at John Deere Harvester Works from 78 thru 81, and remember flood waters one time, being up and into the back lot where all of the finished combines were parked. Seen a picture today of the QC River Bandits Stadium in Davenport. Looks like an island in itself and they are still planning on playing their weekend series with it being like that.

Are you at the campground near the I-80/88 intersection on the Rock River? (near Barstow, it's called Lundeens Landing?)

(I just looked at it with the Birdseye view on Bing maps and it doesn't look like your pic, so I'm guessing you're somewhere else.)

Nope. We are actually at Illiniwek Park. Only 5 minutes from our house but the fist time we have stayed here, amazingly enough.

I have heard they already evacuated Lundeen's landing because the Rock River has flooded so bad.

Illiniwek is just a few miles West of Interstate 80 where is crosses the Mississippi.
