Off Topic- Non RV Related

Not saying that the "gun" thread didn't get out of hand but how does a thread get closed for being non-RV related when it is in the " Off Topic- Non RV Related" section?

IBTL...

Nah, but really the excuse might have been because it was off topic. But it was locked more for the baiting and card pulling.

Sigh;
Gone for a couple of hours sight seeing and this is what I find.
Can't you guys just get along?

Here I was trying to make a case about how NICE CC folks are and that thread simply disgusted me. Some of you really should be ashamed of your conduct. You know who you are.

Off Topic does NOT mean "gloves off;" act badly. The OP had a valid need for information on a "related" topic to RV cross country camping while maintaining his (USA) right to self defense.
That poster needed help. Not a border flame war.

Off my

Herk: Shame on you for being away for so long.
You're going to have to spend more time here, to keep things under control.

I don't think we rallied many to our cause.
A real shame. We had the opportunity to show the community we are sane folks who just refuse to be victims.

FYI - Gettysburg KOA is a "Firearms prohibited" campground. Boo
No fireworks either. YEA! Bella hates them and we are coming back on the 4th of July for the 149th Anniversary of the battle.

I question the validity of no firearms in a campground. Here in Ohio it is illegal for a landlord to post the property a no carry zone if you live and pay rent there. IMHO and IANAL but there would be no difference if you rent your space for you camper. I have been a firearms instructor for many years and have had the privilege of teach many many law abiding citizens. The concealed carry world is one of the best groups of people you can find. If all the anti gunners would take a minute and read the NRA's " Gun Owners Responsibilties" they realize how serious the we are about firearms safety, knowledge, and responsible gun ownership.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't think that is true. I don't think I could when I moderated.

A PM is a private message. An Admin can (I think) but truthfully I would have to be pointed there by someone to do so. Entirely different log in to get to the Admin stuff. I only go there when forced by circumstance.

Being unenforceable is not the reason they post; it I am sure.
Like "Breed Bans" for dogs; it is totally to avoid being entangled in a legal squabble among campers.

If a camper was forced to defend themselves; as a CC holder you know what happens after a shooting; if you survive, you get arrested and the legal system looks for "deep pockets" when they file the inevitable civil law suit even if you are eventually cleared of wrong doing. If "the gun" was prohibited by policy, they can try to avoid getting sucked into the civil suit.

If people can remember, do not let a few bomb throwers destroy a good thread. Besides, if you really want to upset one of these cats, ignore them; they live for the flames.

I will say that closed thread has some very useful information. The unfortunate thing is it became a Constitutional battle (as opposed to a debate) so you have to look through all seven pages to find the informative posts.

My general feeling is not to let any post get your blood up. Pick the facts, the important concepts and expand/explore those.

Still you have to remember this is an RV forum, and whatever is discussed needs to kept within those confines.

Maybe I am wrong, and moderators/admins please comment as needed, but if you have an issue with some post and must respond, PM the poster you have the problem with. Keep your debate there. If it starts to spill out into the forum and gets "personal" flag it to the moderator.

Well I got to put more oil in the Hondas (drained them out a day or two ago) we got a big match in Mendenhall, MS. Its going to nice have 100 gallon Puma, 15 gallons of fuel for the genset. We also get to see if Cap't Dan is going to be dragged by Spenser and Bear if they spot a deer again while on their walk...

That doesn't work. After I was called a name by member I pm'ed him and I ended up getting a tongue lashing from a mod.

What's funny about the gun thread is the offender has done that before and nothing is said. Some members seem to be able to talk trash and get away with it. I'm hitting the report button every chance I get now

Some of that is my fault. I was taught to praise in public and correct in private. Just because the membership does not see the "backroom" discussions on forum rule violations does not mean they do not happen.
PM admonishments; behavior related strikes; and banishment does happen.

Infrequent, yes. We try to influence "bad" behavior but in the end, if a member's misconduct is deliberate and repeated they need to find a forum more to their needs as this one can do without them; no matter how talented or knowledgeable they claim to be.

I assure you there are members who have apologised to me privately for that mess we were forced to endure and assured me their lapse will not happen again. I take them at their word as I hope you take me at mine.

I am sure that LFugate was not the only recipient of an admonishing PM. While baiting is forbidden; raising to take the bait only makes a bad situation worse. Hit that report button and I assure you action will be taken to reign in or remove an out of control member.
