Philosophy of antifreeze (moved from hijacked thread)

Knowingly purchasing 1/2 a jug of water with the rest antifreeze has always made no sense to me. Mixing it "about" 50 / 50 isn't that challenging.

Not a big deal if you have another jug you can use to mix it but if you full time you don't have that extra stuff hanging around. It's much easier to buy it ready to go premixed.

You are right but not everyone has an empty anti-freeze jug laying
around to mix it in. Not everyone needs 2 gallons of mix....
Maybe they just need a quart to top up?

It's like the round-up commercials. They push the ready to use stuff
but I always buy the mix it myself because I need more and also figure why
pay for water. You get more coverage for your $$$ if you mix it yourself.
OTOH a person with a condo and a tiny patio doesn't need a quart of
non-diluted.

OK, I'll jump in here. I buy full strength antifreeze but I also buy liquid laundry soap. Go figure!

So you use a 1 liter pop jug and pour it 1/2 full of 100% anti freeze and then fill it 1/2 full with water. Voila, 1.056 quart of 50-50 mix.

In case a child gets a hold of it and thinks it is pop (soda or some other drink). Antifreeze has a sweet taste and if they drink it, it could be fatal!

Most folks just crush them after using like this and throw them in a dumpster.

I have a water cooled motorcycle. The radiator is tiny and EXPENSIVE.
I have to use "non silicate" anti-freeze and so I buy a gallon and mix with
distilled water. (in an empty antifreeze jug) Lime in your water can clog a radiator and distilled water
costs less than a buck a gallon. It's a no brainer.
I keep distilled water for battery top ups too so I have it on hand most times.

Now we know what the big towers are for at the auto manufacturing plants. Distilled water for the vehicle cooling systems.
