I think that might have been what finally turned me off about the other lens - the size and weight; I'm hoping to lose bulk with a shorter zoom. I'm having a hard time remembering which it was (I've looked at so many!). I did look through the Adorama and B&H Photo's used stuff. Just wasn't sure what I wanted. My 50mm prime came used off of ebay, so I'm not against it. It's well used and shows it a bit (glass is fine, though)- so I think if I buy used, it'll have to be in a bit better shape than this one.

I do actually own a mirrorless Nikon J1. Honestly, I'm not crazy about it. It's not bad- just wasn't the low light performer that I was hoping for. (But really, what small camera is?) We got it because my wife told me she would take the camera and take more pictures if she had a smaller camera to carry. Apparently she lies. (She's also not a FRF reader, fortunately!) So it collects dust most of the time, but my daughter likes using it.

I believe you have 8 bald eagles there. I think the 1 spotted bird is a juvenile bald eagle before the head turns white.

Quite a capture !!

I do believe you are correct! Thanks! Trying to get down by the river in the mornings so I can catch them in action, but unfortunately morning meetings are getting in the way

They are most active in the early a.m. Afternoons are spent gliding in the air.

Finally got a chance to make it down to the lock and dam this morning, although it was cold and windy and I must admit I didn't dress very well for it. On top of that I was sitting out there with about 15 more professional photographers than I am

Here are some of the pics that I nabbed in my 15 minutes of freezing my tail off...

Look closely at this one as I followed it from one of the previous pictures. He has a treat in those claws!

WOW! What a treat to have a display like this so close.
Keep shooting! These are well worth the effort. Thanks for braving the cold to share these with us.

Dang, photobombed by an egret.

We went to the recent St. Louis air show where the Blue Angels were performing but my favorite photo turned out to be of a bi-plane stunt.

Holy smokes how did I miss this?

I'm a part time pro, shooting with a Canon 1DX, my lenses are a 24-105 f4 and a 70-200 f2.8 L IS. I have backed myself into a niche of shooting sports, mainly high school level, some college and my claim to fame is I've gotten to shoot the Atlanta Falcons for the last two seasons. There have been weddings along the way, seniors, events but apparently I shine near a scoreboard.

I'd love to turn this full time, but don't see that happening anytime soon the way the industry is headed.

I've heard that about the industry (that its hard to make it a full time job).

Its very cool that you do it part time. I find sports to be some of the hardest to shoot (limited court positions, bad light indoors, distracting backgrounds, not to mention my slow camera). Love to see some of your shots if you're willing!

Sure, don't have a problem with that.

Here's what graced the front page of the local paper when the Griffin High Bears won the state championship last year.

Note what the banner behind the helmet says.

I'm really sad that Tony Gonzalez retired. He never failed to deliver for me.

Breaking up that touchdown!

At my first NASCAR race. I didn't come away with much this weekend, but I'm improving!

I'm not a fan of the twerp, but he gave me the victory lane shot!

Finally, where it started. This is my stepdaughter, I started out with a mild interest in photography and had kids playing sports. I was shooting, poorly I might add, a game back in 2009 while she was in high school when a reporter walked up asking what paper I worked for. I said none, he asked if I might want to shoot some football for them later that year, I said sure. Lo and behold, that fall he called me. It's been one heck of a ride since!

Of course, there's much more including some I didn't realize I haven't uploaded yet. If anyone would like to see more just ask or you can visit my page.
