Good idea. I'll read owners book to see how big.
Flybob, it's a two week Alaskan cruise/train ride. Not really wanting to haul a laptop around, but I have 32 g card in my phone and I have a card reader. Gonna see if I can get the pictures to the phones sd card. Got spare SD cards too. Thanks.

What camera(s) do you use ?
What lenses, filters, etc.
Got any good do's or do not's (I've got plenty of the latter to share) to pass along ?
To get things started, for the last 10 years or so I've been using a Nikon D50 SLR. It's an entry level camera but it's far more capable than the guy standing behind it.
Lenses consist of the 18-55mm zoom lens that comes with the kit. I've heard "serious" photographers talk down about that lens but it's taken some awfully nice pictures for me over the years.
A 70-300 zoom lens does critter duty so that the next time I'm dangerously, stupidly close to a bear the photo doesn't eventually look like a fuzzy black dot 400 yards away. Better yet, I won't have to get dangerously, stupidly close to a bear to get a good shot.
And recently, I bought a 50mm prime lens (for non-SLR users, "prime" means it's not a zoom lens) with a wider aperture (f1.8) that I hope to use for night landscape photography.
I'll post up a few examples I've found recently that could have been much better shots had I been watching more closely or used something different.
I'm an SLR shooter, but I hope the point-and-shooters and even video-cammers will chime in.

I just came across this thread, glad I did. I am new to digital photography, having been an avid film user for many years. I have 2 Nikon DSLRs, entry level, the 18-50 and 2 telephoto zooms. We live in an apartment overlooking a river and I can stay on our deck and get some very nice shots of egrets, great blue herons, bald eagles, and ospreys.
I take my photo equipment camping, and have had some very nice Lake Huron sunsets, campfires, and much else.
I'll be following this thread with interest.
Cheers

I transfer to a tablet, much easier to pack than a laptop.

Meet Roxanne, she don’t have to put on the red light because she has me :-D
Samsung Note 9 - Thinking of upgrading to one of those fancy new 3 lens phones.
This is my first post on this dusty old thread. I’m so inspired I may just dust off and charge up my old Nikon D500!

I like how the tail gate paint matches the upper half of the back ground.

Canon… 5D4, 6, 6D2, 7, 7D2… 35 lenses — mostly Canon, but half-dozen or so each made by Zeiss and Sigma — from 24mm to 500mm. Old Canon AE-1 and Minolta 700 film cameras. Don’t like the new mirrorless cameras (poor battery life, and a requirement to buy all new lenses).
Do a great deal of astrophotography, wildlife, mountains, clouds, bad weather, sunsets/sunrises, thunderstorms. I have sold my photographs but why bother? My girlfriend and I have some stunning photos in our house (most — not all — are hers).

Nikon Mirrorless Z Cameras

I went mirrorless three years ago. I went from a Nikon DSLR D800 to a Nikon mirrorless Z7II. The battery life for my mirrorless Z7II is quite bad compared to my D800 DSLR. With two processors along with the electronic viewfinder, rear monitor and Wi-Fi or Bluetooth running, it does eat up a lot of power. There are power management options on the camera that can help, but I'll either carry a spare battery with me, or I'll use my vertical grip (NB-N11) that holds two batteries.
As far as lenses are concerned, many Nikon SLR and DSLR lenses are compatible with Nikon mirrorless cameras using a Nikon Z lens adapter. There are some lenses that are not fully compatible, but those are mostly older lenses. The general consensus on a number of Nikon mirrorless forums that I follow is that the picture quality using DSLR lenses with the Nikon Z adaptor is undistinguishable between DSLR and mirrorless. I haven't read a single review that indicated a loss of picture quality using the Z adaptor.
In my own situation, I choose to replace my DSLR lenses with new Nikon Z mirrorless lenses. I did that because everything I read indicated that the new Nikon Z lenses out preformed the older lenses across the board. Below is my Nikon Z mirrorless camera gear.

Know how to fleece sheep? Announce the sale of a new iPhone… everyone has to have a one.
If I listed the lenses that I have — most costing a lot of money, some even more — you’d understand why I don’t want to go out and purchase more at outrageous prices to replace perfectly good obsolete ones. Some of these lenses cost a small fortune, so Canon makes them all obsolete? I have a 500mm lens that cost more than a small fortune new.
Of course, there are a lot of people who rush out to get the newest shiny shiny… but from what I hear in the community, the new mirrorless Canon has NOT been well-received… and Canon’s sales have plummeted. Badly. Mokusatsu: Damatte keibetsu suru
I figure that by the time that my last EOS camera can’t be repaired, I’ll be pushing up daisies in some graveyard. Canon got the last dollar from me they’ll ever get.
