"but they don't seem to be able to justify paying."
No doubt on this one. They want everything, extra coverage, extra shots, blah, blah, blah..."I'll pay..." I'd be retired if that were true.

A lot of people don't realize the cost of the equipment has to be figured into the cost of the pix.

I think they realize it, I don't think they care.
I'm about to have a come to Jesus meeting with the paper I work with. They're dragging their feet about my NASCAR credentials (Atlanta starts in just over a week. Time's a runnin out.) and since that's how they pay me, it seems they need to step it up.
Sooooo, anyone have an extra set of media creds for Atlanta they don't need?

I am new to photography. I would like to thank all of you for sharing your pictures, thoughts, and experience. I decided I wanted something better than an iPhone camera to capture the places we were going with the RV. (Although, I do have some pretty good iPhone pics). So in November I picked up the following:
Camera:
Nikon D5300
Lenses:
Nikkor 55-200 f4
Nikkor 18-55 f3.5 (Kit Lens)
Medium duty tripod
I am spending my winter learning the basics / practicing and yearning for camping season. I did opt for the Lightroom / Photoshop $9.95 monthly deal. I shoot in RAW and I am amazed at the options it gives me in processing photos (I said I was new). I love Lightroom and am baffled by the complexity of Photoshop. I look forward to more posts and thought I would share some of my practice shots.

Go to KelbyOne - A better way to learning Photoshop, Lightroom and Photography and look into the training there, it's excellent. I went to Scott's Shoot Like A Pro tour last year and it raised my game beyond belief in just one day. Joel Grimes is next week, I'm deciding about going to that if I can.
Photoshop is amazing, just using content aware on removing problems is more than worth it.
Excellent shots, can't wait to see more!

It is fair. Not sure how much of that is me or the lens. It seems to keep up on continuous focus.

Ok. I've been toying with a long zoom, but it needs to be fast focusing. A fast (f2.8) lens would help but would also be expensive.

This is f5-6.3. I'm not a professional and this is the most my budget would allow.

Neither am I, so I "sneak" my pro lenses past the DW. I've been taking pix for nearly 40 years. And now after using pro lenses and camera, anything less is frustrating.

I thought I'd post some of my favorite pics from our time in Gulf Shores, AL
This Heron was looking for handouts from the local fishermen.
After the rain shower.
Blue Angels practice session.
The sun sets on the last ferry of the day.

Why can't I post photographs? When I try it kicks me off the forum. I'm a retired photographer and would like to contribute to the forum.

How are you trying to post photos? You can upload them to the forum, but you're limited to size, quality, etc. I host my photos on my website (I use Smugmug, but you can use free sites such as photobucket) and post links.
Click the yellow box above, the one with a little mountain and a moon in the corner, then post the link to the photo.
Copy the web link to your photo, then paste it into the box that pops up.

There are more than one way to post... a couple of ways from a computer, ways using the FR app on a smart phone, ways using Tapatalk on a smart phone (my preferred way if the pic is on my phone).
Select the following topic and scroll down to posting pictures information. http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...sics-6778.html

I downloaded the app so I thought I'd try to upload a picture.
