Pigeon Forge

Looking to stay a week next summer in Pigeon Forge . Looking for a campground that doesn`t crowd you in . That's for any names or advice.

Anchor down. Nicest place we've ever been. About a 10 minute ride outside of pigeon forge.

If you are thinking about spending time in the Smokey Mts, think about Towsend (much smaller and little traffic into the park). Pigeon Forge has lots of tourist attractions but is very crowded (and traffic into the park can be a pain).

Anchor Down is almost 20 miles from Pigeon Forge, and with traffic, you could be 45 minutes or more. I would look closer. There's plenty to choose from

Check out Pine Mountain , right turn at street light #6 in Pigeon Forge. Two blocks off the main strip (quiet), close to Mama's Farmhouse (don't miss this) and you get free access to the hotel pool across the street. Also Trolly stop on site. Ask for creekside back in site if #60 & 61 are taken. Best bath house we've seen. Short drive thru Gatlinburg to Alwine pottery. Townsend, TN is good alternate if you want separation from tourist events.

Most of the campgrounds in PF have trolley access, but we love Pine Mtn. After staying at most of the campgrounds in/around the area, it has the closest access to the happenings, you are close to Dollywood, but you are back behind a knoll and the sound off the parkway is less. It's location allows you to use some back roads to get back and forth to the places you want to get to without using the "parkway". Traffic in PF and Gatlinburg can be absolutely horrible. When we stayed at Riverside, we sat in traffic for several hours trying to get into PF, but it is a great campground, just not a great location. We have stayed at Smoky Bear, Adventure Bound and Jellystone, but you are about 30 minutes out of Gatlinburg and then another 15-20 into PF, according to traffic. We have stayed in Townsend and in Wallen, but you also have about 45 minutes of drive time to get to PF, if that is your desire.

The sites at Pine Mtn are larger than most of the commercial campgrounds there, but that's not saying a lot. The pools are great and since one of them is indoor, it's useful when the weather is not pleasant outside.

Anyway, that's my opinion.

I is not in Pigeon forge but in Townsend. Tremont Outdoor Resort. Right at the border of the GSMNP and very quite and clean, plenty of room between sights and Townsend is a great little town. We went to Pigeon Forge 3 times and the short drive is not bad at all for the quietness of the campground away from all the touristy things.
