Price of Diesel

We crossed the border to Post Huron MI yesterday to do a little shopping and was amazed at the price of diesel there is a whole dollar between gas and diesel, did they stop making it from crude oil :roll eyes: it's cheaper in Canada and that should be embarrassing to you guys south of us.

Diesel is $3.29 gas is $2.58 here but Diesel prices usually change more slowly than gas prices.

We're about 30 miles south of that bridge and around here, there is a $1.10 difference. I have no idea why.

You got me I don't understand it so I drive my Ford Fusion to work and drag my 42' Toy Hauler camping.

We had one station that went to $3.89 for 2 weeks and right across the road a Murphy's station was $3.45 the whole time. This morning that other station finally decided to change it to $3.55. Completely ridiculous price increase, even if that other station drops lower I will never pull my truck in there and give them any of my money!

From what I know diesel takes less refining so the higher cost isn't an actual cost. It was explained to me that it is taxes. Not only the ones you see at the pump but the hidden taxes paid by the old companies and refineries that are passed on to us the loyal stupid consumer. It was to tax the trucks that deliver our goods. The little people just get caught in the trap. Anybody else know anything about this price discrepancy.

Watch the commodities market, gasoline & diesel go to market like lobster & tuna at a fish market, the ultra low sulfur diesel specs are stringent, I work for big oil, I personally blame speculators, govt's taxes on EACH gallon, and the retailers who ride the profit wave too long w/o adjusting prices unless the price goes up, you can trend all of this, I do & I shouldn't cause I get too pissed off about it. If you calculate each day's taxes per gallon that the govt gets times 1 year, we shouldn't have a $17 trillion debt. That shows ineptness in being fiscally responsible-but that's another subject for later

So does that mean diesel takes more refining than gasoline? (therefore higher costs) I know decades ago it didn't but the eco nuts have forced this to cost more just like eveverything else they get their hands into.

No Diesel is the junk left over from the cracker in the processing, it really the opp. The reason is the average person with all the new cars and trucks that use it. Also remember that truckers get kick backs per gal. from the Company and the feds. So in short they really do not pay the same as we do. That's how they get by with it.

I remember when diesel was always 50 to 75 cents gal. cheeper than gas until something changed, I don't know what, now it is the opposite.
I like my John Deer deisel tractor and my old 1 ton diesel truck. For some reason the manuf. took the clacking noise out of the newer diesel truck engines, WHY??? Guess someone complained they didn't like the noise of the diesel engine so they punish us all. They even took the whistle out of the turbo!!! WHY???? I put a Rifraff turbo wheel in mine to make the whistle louder to make others mad. LOL Let her roar!!!

They "took the clacking out" because the design evolved into direct injection, which is more efficient and powerful. Now if they'd just take all away all that EPA crap on there that robs us of all that extra power, we'd have something. You might even hear the turbo again. They didn't do it just to pi$$ you off, really...
