Glad I was going the other direction. Wonder what the tongue weight is? Maybe he was headed to the scales "ready to camp"

When I started with a TT (granted many here were not yet born) we towed with cars and station wagons (some may need to Google that). I towed a heavy 28' TT with a Plymouth Fury ~~ 360 cu in and 727 transmission. No need for a trailer towing package, just add WDH and brake controller. 1970s vehicles. 1st almost real TV was purchased many years later, a 1984 Ramcharger ~~ SUV (??) on a truck frame with the same drive train as the Fury...

Those old Lincolns are basically a f150 with a trunk. I had a buddy haul his 22 foot boat around behind his. It did a great job, but always got curious looks at the boat ramp.

Even so, yeah, he looks a little nose heavy...

Yea back in the day before there was mini vans SUVs and crew cab pickups the big family car was a great tv. In the early 80's we had a crown Vic wagon with a v8 and we towed some old prowler and fleet wood trailers that made for some great family vacations.

I towed a 1983 22 ft 5,000 lb trailer with a 1987 Grand Marquis. 351 with Variable Venturi Carb, a can of carb cleaner every year to keep the carb running. That engine had tons of torque and towed just fine. Car was a gift to replace a totaled Club Wagon.
I never once looked at towing capacity as the most important rating was engine size, transmission cooler and good tires. Had all three. Had fun, did not break any speed records, mostly weekend get aways to Lake Huron.

Cars were towing about 95% of all the campers I saw in Germany last year, a few SUV's and Vans but not one truck. Granted none of the campers were over 25-30 foot and no fivers of course!

Yep, We towed trailers for many years when I was a teenager with my mom's station wagons. Same engine, transmission, frame, tires as a pickup.

There is a storage box on the back bumper to help counteract the heavy tongue weight...

Just saw the 1954 Lucy and Desi feature film The Long, Long Trailer this weekend while camping. Hilarious movie. I think were towing their 42' long trailer with a Caddy.

In 1973 I new someone who towed a 5th wheel with a 1973 Caprice 4 door with a 454 engine. The ball was on the roof and they could turn the car completely around while hooked up. I've never seen another one like that.

I saw that too, back in the 70s. Car was actually facing the 5th wheeler in a parking lot. Thanks for validating my memory!

Yes I have a vhs copy of that. It's a classic and worth seeing if you have not already.

Alright I give away my age but what else besides an 8 track had so much crosstalk that you could listen to 2 tracks at the same time. I still wish I had kept the Mustang that the 8 track was mounted in.

Anyway I did google the movie and you can buy it from Amazon on DVDs.

For those that are not familiar with the movie here is a trailer for it.

I'm not a Lucille Ball fan but I really enjoyed the movie. Especially the part where the mechanic keeps yelling at Desi "trailer brakes first, trailer brakes first!" and Desi just has this look on his face like, "What did I get myself into?". Lol, my DH and I could totally relate the first time out.

I've seen a lot of those old Crown Vics and Fords with broken rear springs dragging their tails on the ground. Its a wonder that one is as level as it is.
