Remotes don't work??
3 different remotes
1 Comcast
1 Magnavox TV
1 surround sound system
None of them will make anything happen
The sound system is separate yet I can't control it
Could it be a Ham Radio?
or the small airport that is about a mile away?
The shades are pulled and the screen brightness is turned down
I wiped the fronts of the remotes and the fronts of the boxes
A tech came over about 2 weeks ago and couldn't explain it - said it is an anomoly...

Wall outlet.
2 cords.
TV is plugged in to unswitched cable box outlet.

are you trying to use a Comcast cable box in a campground?
don't know where you're trying to use all these remotes. house or campground?

Just curious....did the remotes come with the devices you are trying to control? Have they worked in the past? If so, what has changed?

Yes and yes.
I don't know of anything that has changed...
I can now turn the TV off and on and change the volume.
The cable remote works up to about 4 feet from the box - no more. It was only working within 2 inches.
The sound system still does not respond at all by remote.
Everything worked well for many months then about 3 weeks ago nothing worked by remote. Of course it all worked when the tech was here 2 weeks ago.
Things were fine for 2 weeks now there is almost no response... again...??

The devices turned on so they have power.
Remotes work when they want and not far away. Do the remotes have fresh batteries?

Have you added any motion sensors to the house? Some, but not many, emit infra-red and it can desensitize a remote control pickup. Any other new electronics in the room the devices are in? Try unplugging all but one device and try it's remote. Go through all 3 that way.

Evereddie led me down the path!
The remote to the sound system didn't work at all so I pulled the batts out and then the other 2 worked.
Took it apart and found a piece of conductive coating from the back of a "button" laying between 2 contact points. Removed it and now all 3 work 
It was putting out a constant signal that blocked or interfered with the other devices.

Glad I inspired a fix! I am a broadcast and communications engineer and you wouldn't believe how may times I found a piece of equipment messing with other equipment around it. Even if that piece of equipment appeared to work good. In your case you knew one piece was bad already.
