Some funny people in here!
Colorado is the highest state in the Union which means we are closest to God...so who would want to leave? ;-)
(I've spent a few years in the south Pacific, the Philippines, and 90 degrees and going to the beach is exciting the first Christmas but Christmas isn't really Christmas without the snow and ice!!)

DW's parents are in their 80's and she's an only child, so we feel kind of compelled to stay close to Missouri in the winter, in case they need our help. There will come a time, though...

I already did. I like the four distinct seasons we have here in the Piedmont with generally mild winters.

Sounds like you have caught the "Rocky Mountain High" fever.
Colorado is a beautiful state - we stayed at the Air Force Acedemy camp ground 2 years ago and Colorado Springs is beautiful.

I love to go ice fishing, easier to find frozen lakes around here than in the south. By mid March, I had enough, and the south is warming up, that's when I head down for a few weeks.

Is this an open invitation to your place in the south?

We began our 1st extended time away from Michigan last year in Apalachicola, Florida (east of Panama City) when the temperatures plummeted like you noted in your post. The first morning I was greeted with icicles hanging off my trailer. Didn't mind at all because I knew it was going to be a lot warmer later in the day than at home!

I hate ice fishing, tried it once. By the time I cut a hole in the ice big enough for the boat, I was too tired to fish!

We use to snowmobile a lot when we lived in Moline, but after you get wiser, you learn to let the young pups deal with the cold and snow. We will head to FL the Fri after Thanksgiving or the day after the high is only in the 30's here in Concord, whichever occurs first.

Pcola is still too far north. Have to be close to I4 or south of I4!

I think a better question would be "why do retired people go back north in the spring?"

Why does everyone think retirees are supposed to head south in the winter? I just retired and moved NORTH and have no plans on heading south for the winter. I'm looking forward to a nice cold winter and hopefully, lots of snow.

Retired Folks Why don't you go South for the winter?
I already live as far south as you can travel so when I retire in 6 years I will be a "sunbird." I'll travel north in the summer months to escape the hot temps of Texas.

I agree with Moab & Grumpyer, just retired and happy to stay in Idaho and enjoy the cold and snow knowing I don't have drive in it during the rush hour.
