So very proud of our 9-year-old granddaughter!

Cindy and I are so very proud of our 9-year-old granddaughter Cambrea! She told her parents (our youngest daughter and her husband) nearly a year ago that she wanted to help children afflicted with neuroblastoma, a devastating form of children's cancer.

She signed up to participate in "St. Baldrick's," a program in which participants agree to have their heads shaved to raise money for cancer research.

Yesterday she had her head shaved after raising over $6,000 for cancer research. Her total was among the top ten of nearly 700 participants. Cambrea donated her beautiful blonde hair to Locks of Love to make wigs for patients who have lost their hair to chemotherapy and other treatments and side effects.

What a remarkable young lady! As her shirt says, she's "Brave, Bald, and Beautiful"! (The lipstick on the "after" photo is from smooches from her Mom and various aunts and cousins.)

Congrats on having such a wonderful and caring grand daughter. She did a wonderful thing. It's great that a person her age takes such an interest in helping others.

That's great, Bob, thanks for sharing. What a great a blessing it is to have grandchildren, and how very special it is to have one with such a great heart! Children really light up the world.

My daughter is a 9-year survivor of cancer. At 13 months l, she diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. She had surgeries and radiation treatments. She's now happy, healthy and cancer free. In fact, we now are embarking on braces for her teeth!

I noticed your post said "other kids with neuroblastoma" which tells me she is a survivor. I hope all is going well.

The St. Baldricks shave events are remarkable. I know I don't have the courage to do it!

Ependydad, how wonderful that your daughter beat the tumor and can look forward to many healthy and happy years!

I've removed the word "other" from the post, since it can be interpreted differently from how it was meant. Cambrea has been blessed with wonderful health and wants to help others enjoy the same. Thanks for catching it.

You are so fortunate. One of my best friend's daughters lost that battle, just about the same age. It isn't fair that such innocent little kids have to endure such hardship. And her parents have never fully recovered, I guess you never do.
Please give your daughter an extra hug for them.

And yes, Cambrea is awesome!
