Lived in Michigan for many years and can't stand Vernor's. Locals there think it's ginger ale, but not quite. I can best describe it as a mix of ginger ale and cream soda gone wrong. When I think of ginger ale, I think of Canada Dry (eh?). Cream soda could be either IBC or A&W. But, to each their own. As for Faygo, I do see it from time to time here in Colorado.
Speaking of Colorado, at least here in Fort Collins area, I hear the majority of people call soft drinks pop, except for the Californians who give you the "deer in the headlights" look if you don't call it soda.
