Soda or Pop?

I noticed people from different parts of the country refer to carbonated beverages (such as Coke or Pepsi) as either Pop or Soda. Just curious what you say, and where you're from.

We're from Michigan and 100% of the people say "Pop"

I'm from PA and we say soda.
We would hear it called pop from some of the older folks. (They also called a bag a "poke").

I know some places call ALL soda "coke".

In Missouri it's soda on the St. Louis side and pop on the KC side. I lived in Atlanta for 23 years and everything was Coke.

Learn something every day. Coke sure has the brand advantage in that in some areas it's a household name for many similar products...like scotch tape, or band-aid, or jello.

Off the subject a little if you order ice tea here it will be very sweet unless you ask specifically for unsweet......... & if you order it unsweet you automatically must be a Yankee.

As a kid growing up in Illinois it was pop. As an adult (kinda) in Wisconsin it's soda. But then again here a drinking fountain is called a bubbler .

When I worked in upstate NY, Rochester was the Pop/Soda line. East of Rochester was soda, West was pop.

In New England, it is soda.

Born and raised in Maryland and lived in Wesminster Md for the past 31 years and now live in PA, "soda" seems to be the word just south and just north of the Mason Dixon Line.

Sorry Elind!!!! If it's any consolation, so does my DH! We are the epitomy of the Coke/Pepsi war.
