Most people I know say Vernors.
30 years ago when I was in Virginia, people did not even know what Vernors was. I will say Vernors since I am from Michigan!!!! I like the diet as well since I am a diabetic too!!

So this is kind of a good question. I have lived many places in the US and it is referred to as many different things. Pop is what I knew it growing up as here in Michigan. Out west they refer to it a Soda, and in the south, it doesn't matter what it is that you narew drinking but it is referred to as a Coke. This is what I have learned in my travels.

In Canada, at least in the prairies, we say pop.

Pop, sub and Vernors here in Michigan. I don't think most know what Vernors is unless your within a state of Mi. I still give my kids a nice hot glass of Vernors when their not feeling so well.

As a lad in North Carolina in the 50's and 60's, we called the stuff "soft drinks." It wasn't until later that we started to hear people talk about soda and, rarely, pop.

Coke. Then you have to specify what kind of Coke. As in:

Q: Hey, y'all want a Coke?
A1: Sure, I'll have a Dr. Pepper
A2: I'll have a Pepsi
A3: I'll have a Coke
A4: I'll have a 7 UP

Note A3...if you answer "Coke" to "what kind", that means you want an actual Coca Cola.

In Pennsylvania, you can get Soda in most of the state, Pop in smaller sections and Soda-Pop in the North Eastern part of the state. I grew up drinking Pop in the Western part of PA.

Being a diabetic myself, I found Canada Dry Diet Ginger Ale to be the best tasting sugar free soft drink on the market IMO.

No I haven't. I have heard of Vernors, but don't believe it is widely known in this area. WIKI says it is very popular in Ohio, Michigan and Illnois.
