Sources for RV reservation discounts

DH and I aren't officially senior citizens...neither of us are sixty yet. Are there sources that any of you know about that will afford us discounts for nightly fees?

Joining the Good Sam Club will get you a 10% discount at their many member parks. Also some parks give discounts for members of AARP and many folks join Passport America and enjoy a 50% discount at the many parks that are members of Passport America.

Weezer, you can still join AARP, even before you are 60 (55, if I remember correctly) and that is good for a 10% discount at many parks.

only discounts i know of, are the 10% discounts that most anyone can get.
doesn't matter if it's AAA, AARP or Good Sam, they all are only 10%.

that's why many of us get Passport America or one of their competition.
they are the only type of true "discount" at campgrounds out there.

Thanks, ya'll! I checked Passport America, wasn't impressed with the parks they offer in AR, LA, TX, MS. They appear to all be private parks.

AARP? ummm no thanks...'nuff said

We're members of Good Sam, so we'll utilize that even if it's 10%.

There's a membership for LA State Parks here, done through LA Wildlife, but I must hit that 60 mark first, then, IIRC, it's a 50% discount.

Doodler I'll check in to that Federal Park discount!

LOL, yeah, our camping buddies have that....I've got a ways to go to qualify for that.

Was just checking the extended weather forecast for our area...it appears that after this next mi-week, we're DONE with night time freezing temps!

YIP YIP YIP YAHOOOOO! I may need to take on a second job to pay for all the reservations I'm about to book!

Weezer, that Federal park pass is $80 a year for non seniors, $10 lifetime for 62 and up, free for people with disabilities. www.recreation.gov go to help and faq page. on the right hand side of page click on America the Beautiful Pass. Hope this helps.

would've helped if you had stated that you were only interested in public campgrounds and not private ones.
only true discounts will be at private places.
only discounts at public campgrounds will be for military, disabled and seniors.
other than the America the Beautiful pass, i don't know of any "discount", other than these, for public campgrounds.

We currently use Good Sam and KOA. Though in most cases State / Provincial parks still come in cheaper than using those. ($45-10% > $27)

I'd rather just stick to the state parks but with toddlers in tow we usually end up at the 'fun' (read 'costly') places.

AARP started soliciting me at age 50. Still haven't knuckled under and joined, that would make me feel antique. As I tell Wifey, I may grow old but I'll never grow up!

We use Good Sam (Life Member), Passport America, KOA, and Military (Retired) whenever possible. Only 48, so senior discounts are a few years a way. I need to look into America the Beautiful Pass.

Bikendan, I don't know where you got that I'm "only interested" in public campgrounds. I never intimated that.

One of the greatest parks we've stayed in so far was "Up the Creek RV Park" (privately owned) outside Pigeon Forge.

That said, I also know that some "private parks" (especially here in LA) are little more than an open field with water and electricity spaced far enough apart to park between them. I've seen one that doesn't even have roads across that field and certainly doesn't have paved parking at each "site".

I also know of some state parks that aren't near as nicely appointed as private parks.

I've only stayed at one COE park, and it was awesome! We checked out a state park yesterday that was just as nice as that COE park.

Would've helped if you'd asked me instead of assuming I wasn't interested in private parks.

BTW, I should have explained that I checked out Passport America before even creating this thread so that response wasn't directed at you per se.

I too looked at Passport America and was unimpressed with many of the parks in their system so I never bothered joining.

There really aren't many discounts available for those under the age of 62 Weezer. The only "great" discount for seniors like me is the Senior Pass available for purchase through the National Park Service.
Even though you aren’t old enough for the Senior Pass you might consider going to a college town and seek out the students that are adept at making fake ID cards for underage students. Have them make you a fake drivers license stating your age is 62 and use that to purchase a Senior Pass. Just kidding…or am I?

Here in my home state of MO the state parks offer a discount for those 65 years and older. The discount is 2 bucks a night…woo hoo, be still my beating heart. Campsite rates range from $21 for basic electric to $28 for the few full hookup sites. Additionally there is a charge of $8.50 to make an online reservation. If you change that reservation they charge another $5.25 and here’s a kicker, if you cancel your reservation you not only lose the original $8.50 they also charge you another $8.50. I rarely go to a MO state park. I prefer area COE campgrounds where my Senior Pass gets me a 50% discount and there is no charge for making the reservation.

Good Sam, KOA, CAA and retired military pretty gets us a discount of some type anywhere we go. We only renew the KOA if the discounts for the year is more than the membership is worth though.

X2 on the Good Sams. Also if you get the Good Sams credit card you can get extra points for booking campgrounds on that card. I also use reserve America. They don't have every campground but works for us.
