I just saw that on Shreveport news. So sad.
People, if you can, please stay home.

Yeah, dcheatwood, that'd be me and DH getting hammered right now.
Walked out on to the carport to check the weather when I saw your post, wearing moccasins.
Holy crapola! Stepped out on to the driveway to see if the wet stuff on the 5er and DH's truck was just rain or ice. Dang near busted my arse, I did!
Yeah, the sleet on the driveway concrete is no longer melting. It's staying frozen and the rain falling with it is freezing as well.
Called in and got clearance to stay home tomorrow. I'm considered "essential personal" but my sup said they'd get a stand-in for me.
Seniority is nice to have.
Won't be long now till you'll be able to hear pines breaking out in the woods, sounding like rifle shots, over and over and over.
Momma nature, make it stop already!
This will be DH's first ice storm here. While he was a long time Floridian when we met and I dragged him back here (still kicking myself for that one) he's also lived in NY and Chicago and was accustomed to snow. Neither place did he ever go through what he's about to experience here.
I *really* hope his office calls for him to stay home tomorrow. (he says if they do he may just have to trek out to the 5er and bring in the Drambuie). If he does he'd best bring the Gentleman Jack back with 'im or i'm lockin' him out there! Except that, dang it, he'd still have the 5er keys in his hand and would then probably lock ME out of the 5er and keeping me away from the booze.

Yanno B47, I think when people are advised to stay OFF the highways unless it's a dire emergency should be arrested on the spot.
DH and I have discussed this a lot over the past 2 weeks. It's not our driving that keeps us home, it's the knuckle draggin' arrhh arrhh "hold my beer and watch this" idiots that scare the beejeepers out of us. They just have this innate, stupid urge to prove they can drive under conditions they are NOT accustomed to.
And when they do cause an accident, it's not them that gets injured, it's usually someone trying to help them.
With my neck injury, one "perfect storm" accident and I could be a paraplegic or even a quadriplegic so I'm staying HOME. Being country livin type folks, we didn't have to make a mad dash to the grocery store either, though we have one close by. We probably have enough here to live on for at least 3 months on our freezer contents alone, then we have the SHTF food as backup to that. And we have a generator to keep the freezers going.
Yeah, we were preppers (we just call it country living) long before prepping became a cool thing to do. I guess I've been a prepper all my life and it made me nuts living in FL when 9/11 hit. That's when we moved back here.
Country folks *can* survive, if we stay off the roads and away from idiots in bad weather.
Prayers UP for the family of that fireman.

Weeper?
I've got a back up plan. I'll go after the booze and then he won't lock me out.
Nahhh he's far too much a gentleman to do that to his sweet, loving, kind and adorable wifey poo!
And he'd think I'm awesome for going out there to get "his" booze for 'im!

Just went out and took pics of poor Buffy and Biff. Icicles are hanging from the awning rolls, the wheel wells, even from the tires of both.

Snow in the south??!!
This winter in NC we got more snow than they have gotten in a long time. I grew up in New England and have lived in Alaska so 8-12 inches of snow is not that bad as far as I’m concerned. They just don’t have the infrastructure to deal with this weather down here so the power goes out and naturally all the cars go in the ditch. As a volunteer firefighter, we have been to more accidents these past two storms than we went to all last year. What’s even worse is that I am stuck on the Island of Oahu for 12 days for work while the wife is at home dealing with the savage NC winter I hope all the folks that aren’t used to this type of weather make it through ok.

North Louisiana 9 PM radar. I had to look up what pink and blue represent. I never see that down here. LOL

Sounds like an out of the blue theory!

They were working too hard to be cold...........which is a good thing.
Tomorrow is going to be interesting, to see if the roads are passable. I have several special order tires scheduled for tomorrows delivery that are coming out of Jackson, MS.

What is funny is the people who call in now wanting snow tires. We have to tell them that it's nearly impossible to find anybody stocking snow tires in Louisiana......because we don't have snow..... or ice usually.
We even get calls for snow chains (which you can't use on LA roads without an emergency declaration).

Good idea. We have some UTV's around here that have some big knobbies on them. We also have some UTV's that cost more than a truck too.
I do agree that Deep South drivers have no business on icy roads, as we don't know how to properly drive on em.
