If I have the time I keep them on the line asking for information and to repeat themselves as much as I can get away with. Their wasted time is lost money to them. My personal best was 27 minutes and I spoke to 3 different people in that call

Occasionally I'm in the mood to toy with these people. Some of my favourites:

1. If they call at dinner time, I put them on hold and sit back down at the table and continue with dinner. I get back on the line in a minute and ask them hold again.....they usually hangup in a couple of minutes (My wife hates me doing this)

2. If someone is selling newspapers or a magazine subscription, I usually say : I'm illiterate and I don't think this is a funny joke. This results in dead silence for a second.

3. If someone is selling goods or services, I usually make a counter-offer , like "can you throw in a set of free steak knifes or a Jack Lalanne juicer" (totally unrelated to their sales pitch).

I love to play with the Microsoft techs that call to let me know there is a virus on my computer. As I know what the results of all the steps they ask you to input are, I play along ( including redoing typos etc). You can hear them get more excited as you get closer to them taking control of your computer. When they tell you must have done something wrong since they can not see your machine, I tell them that is because it off. They hang up and I have a good laugh.

Sounds great!! I attempted to register but our carrier, Brighthouse, is not yet on their list. Guess I will have to keep the air horn by the phone awhile longer

Next time they call from "Microsoft" ask how they got your number since you are running a Mac. You will get a click ( hang up ) !!!
I had such a call. I heard this from a comic act.... I told him I couldn't talk to him right then but told him I could call him... then asked when he would be home... and if he gives me his home number I would call him later. He said, he couldn't give out his home number. I said to him, so you don't like people calling you at home; bothering you? He said that was right. So, I said to him I feel the same way. I hate having people bother me at home when I am trying to relax too, so why don't you hang up now... and he did.

The last few calls show up as my own phone number. If they can call me using my own number why can the not call someone else using my phone number?
