Speaker Wiring Polarity

Are there any folks out there familiar w/ GM's wiring of their vehicles?

The reason I'm asking is I'm going to hook up a pair of removable speakers for outside of my TT. They are similiar to the rear speakers in my '86 Monte Carlo SS. There is a dark blue & light blue wire going to the RH speaker. On the LH side, the 2 wires are brown & yellow.

I'm wondering if someone would know which wires are + & which are -?

I have the GM service manual that includes the wiring schematics, but I'm in the middle of a move & I don't exactly know where the manual is.

I'm going to use a spare 4 flat harness that I found in the garage to connect the Concertone to the speakers. When the speakers aren't in use I'll be able to unplug the harness & just have a short pigtail exposed by the DVD to TV RCA wall plug.

For speakers, there isn't any real polarity. Just make sure you hook the positive wire on the the same side on both speakers, left for instance. As long as you have them both the same, you will be fine.

(sometimes the positive is marked in small letters or with a dot of paint, but as long as the speakers are identical, just hook the positive on the same side of each).

Boy, that was quick.

The speaker (male) plug has A & B moulded into it. I'll just think of A being + & B being - & I should be OK. Unfortunately I can't easily get the matching female connectors (discontinued in '88), so I'll just solder some leads onto the wire "behind" the plug.

Post pics of the Monte! I had an '84 but it was a non SS. The engine was a 6 cyl and just gave out. I got a great deal on a built 350 small block with transmission and dropped that in. I did a lot on that car. Added power windows, locks and trunk release, rear SS spoiler and front end. Most of the parts were scrounged from the wrecking yard. Had a lot of fun building that car. I love those body style Montes and the sister car from Buick.

I haven't got any decent pics, but this 1 will give you an idea. It was taken back in '07 just after I had it repainted (body shop trailered it to my house).

I'll try to remember to take a pic the next time I wash it.

I posted over @ the other RVing site & got this reply:

Use a 9v battery to touch the terminals of the speaker. If the cone moves out, mark the terminal touching the + bat. If it moves in, reverse the battery and mark the appropriate terminal. Note: I haven't tried this but I saved it from a post on the forum.

I tried it & the wire marked B on the connector is the + wire.
