Ssa cola

I guess you heard, but just in case you didn't, it appears that we are getting a whopping 1.5% COLA for 2014. That works out to about $18/mo for me. Gee, I don't know where I should spend all that money.

At least you get SSI. My current SSI retirement age is 67. I'm predicting that it will be closer to 70 by the time I get there. That means I will have paid into the system for over 51years since I started working at age 16. I'm also predicting that in 2032 SSI will not have kept up with real inflation, you know, the kind that includes food as a measurement.

SSI is the biggest Ponzi scheme around.

It would be self stainable if Washington would keep their filthy fingers out of it. Also the USPS

Ya'll be careful! Mentioning a government entity and/or policy around here will get your hands slapped.

Understand your concerns but for me still working....... I have not had any pay raise in 8 years. But I have a job unlike many around here closest city (Martinsville VA) at 15% unemployment was at 22%..... Sad when the Martinsville Speedway is now one of the larger local employers even if it is only 2 weeks at a time. 99% of our industry is gone...........

The COLA for 2010 was 0.0% and the COLA for 2011 was 0.0% so I'll take the 1.5% in 2014 thank you very much.

Are you griping? Be thankful, they could have reduced it and you can always give it back.

Me too - I get the 1.5% on my SS as well as my Civil Service Retirement System annuity - the glass is almost full.

I just love the $30 COLA raise, to go along with a $45 hike in health insurance. -$15 take home pay.

But it is better than a stick in your eye...

No, I wasn't exactly griping. I'm glad I got what I did, but my health insurance went up another $11, so My SSA will only actually be about $8 per month.

Have had to do a couple of edits. Please be mindful of the no politics talk rule. Angst and anger at Congress isn't appropriate here at FRF per the Community Rules.

I'm not angry with Congress. I did want to add that I can't afford to give it back, because I'm almost below the poverty level now.

I think there are sides of it that aren't necessarily- basically, y'all are a bunch of geezers and are age-ready for SSA so possibly some pertinent info can be shared.
